Wanted to get in some fishing before the candy haul on Halloween. Since the weather was so nice, dad and I decided to do something different for us and try to find some stripers on Texoma. We have tried a few times in the past and didn't do very good. My dad went out with Chris Carey from Striper Express several years ago and had a great day but I guess dad forgot everything he taught him hmmm! We started on some flats in the main lake where a few other boats were fishing and we caught a few on slabs in about 30-40 FOW. When they moved off and we couldn't find them we went into one of the big coves and saw some birds working and there were about 3 other boats fishing there in about 20-30 FOW. We caught a couple of small fish on top water and then I got out the Mepps MAL with the white blade and started burning it near the surface and caught a few more. The topwater action didn't last long and when the birds left and so did the other boats. But we were still marking them on the graph and started using the MAL casting out and letting it go to the bottom and working it like we do for whites (sawtooth). We also used the vertical method right under the boat. We were catching striper on every cast for about 20 minutes and then they disappeared. Overall we caught about 20 small fish with one over 20". It was fun trying something new and learning a new lake. I hope we get to go back soon. I think we need another trip on the Striper Express!

Good job, especially since the recent weather change can make it difficult to find fish on big Tex and then make them bite.

Good job Lincoln and Dad! Happy to hear the white blade MAL mepps works. What line test are you using on the heavier MAL? Mono or braid? Thanks.

Thanks for the report on the white blade Mepps working. I tried all sizes of silver Mepps back in July and caught very few. After that trip, I realized I didn't try colored Mepps. We are going to Texoma next week and will try various Mepps colors in addition to the 2/5 oz. Little Cleos, which we discovered were effective during the July trip.

SeaPro-Todd, we use 15# mono with the MAL and have no problems. By the way, we also caught some on the yellow blade version!
