TFFer Fat Minnow and a friend took me out in their boat yesterday so I could show them how to ID fish on the electronics and show them how to catch fish using the Mepps method. We caught a total of 120 fish: 115 big white bass, a hybrid, 2 short hybrids, a short striper, and a cat. It was an enjoyable day with XP (Fat Minnow) and his friend Patrick. It took a while for them to catch on to the Mepps technique, but by the end of the day they were both catching fish on Mepps. They had to overcome some obstacles. First, they were using open-face spinning reels, which do not have the feel needed for the best fishing results with Mepps. The bail winding the line around the spool keeps you from holding the line in your hand to feel the sensitive bites, and, when you release the line, it does not come out as readily or as fast as a good casting reel. Secondly, I have never used an open-faced spinning reel and could not show them how to use them as best they could. Thirdly, we did not have a detailed map chip in the depth finder, so we could not follow the lake bottom effectively to locate fish. However, this was compensated for by the good fortune that SeaPro Todd showed up, and we followed him around as he located fish at Cloud, Sun, Wolf, and Finger structures. We were already at Greenville Pump Station on fish when Todd showed up. We started about 11:30 AM and finished at 6:30 PM. Ran into etu Ed at Finger - the last stop of the day. We caught our fish in shallow water (10 to 17 fow) and using both #2 and #4 Mepps - alternating back and forth at each spot to see which the fish liked best. Here are some pics from the trip:

What a nice teaching report, DC. Bet they will remember that for the rest of their lives. IMO DC is the best teacher and Twok is probably the best lake to teach cuz we marked good fish at every stop clap woot
Beautiful cool weather, almost zero wind. Good catching. Can't ask for more. angel

Good job guys. We were out there yesterday and saw Todd. We caught lots of fish don’t know exactly how many but it was a great day to be on the lake. My 6 year son caught a 4-5 pound striper. It was a blast watching him real it in.

I fished by yall near the two mile bridge east end. I was in the red skeeter. I could see them but they just didnt want the slabs I was offering... I watched them on livescope swipe at them without biting.. it was frustrating. I have Mepps on order, and they should be delivered tomorrow. Had a bunch of BPS gift card to use. I also bought some large ones for stripes/hybes. The use them for salmon and are 7/8 ounce.

Thanks for the kind words, prosise. "All good gifts are from above", and God has blessed me with the discovery of the Mepps method. For years I just shared it with family and friends, then He helped me realize I needed to share it with all my neighbors (my fellow man). That was in 2009, and I wrote an article describing it and put it on the forum. I love God's great outdoors and fishing, and He has allowed me to spend my retirement years enjoying both. So, I want to give back and help others enjoy God's blessings as well. God is indeed good! If you haven't worked out things with Him, check out the link to the website in my signature block - He loves us all and wants all of us to have an abundant life. Dennis

We saw you at Cloud. Happy birthday, Ronnie happybday

Here's a cool history on mepps that Google was tracking my shopping habbit and recommended to me. smile

A soldier brought back to America in WW2, and then another brave soldier (vietnam vet DC) introduced the mepps on TFF a decade ago. flag
