The word Cheaters really gives you butt hurt doesnt it. They may not now, but the fact is they did! Get over it, you dont get this upset when people talk about the Aggies.

They all steal signs. And by “they”, I am referring to every team above little league select ball. If you think your team didn’t do it and doesn’t still do you, you’re more naïve than I originally thought. It’s part of baseball, the Astros just figured out how to relay it to the batter better than anyone else.

As a big Astros fan, and college player from a few years back, I partly agree with this. If you think your favorite teams aren't stealing signs or trying to steal signs in some form or fashion....you are sadly mistaken. We had people (pitchers who were off that particular day) in the dugout who's sole job was to write down signs given by the opposing coaches. Pitching, hitting, it didn't matter. You're trying to gain an edge. If the opposing team has a sequence and you figure it out, then we used it and we relayed it through saying hitter last names or numbers, and through the runner on second base. It happens every game, in any league, with anyone with a comprehensive knowledge of baseball.
Where I don't agree with is going beyond that and using technology only available to a particular team. The Astros figured it out....by using a camera...and that's crossing the line...not "relaying it better than anyone else"...a systematic team of people who watched the catchers signs with no one on base? Catchers having to give a sequence of signs with no one on base??? Catchers and pitchers having to change signs in the middle of an at bat with no one on base????? That's too far, and not good for the game. I'm all for trying to gain an edge on an opposing team, by trying to get in their head and use the information given to you, but not with technology. That isn't fair in the slightest.

With that being said, I don't like that they cheated, because they did. Am I still a fan? Yes, absolutely. Its not like I, as a fan, was helping them cheat. No one knew at the time.

Also, I realize no one asked for this opinion...but I thought some information from a college catcher could shed some light on this. Plus, there were many times our team did have the signs...and did know what pitch was coming...and it doesn't help near as much as you think. You still have to hit it.

The home plate umpire needs to get a clue on check swings however.
