SWA furloughed 630 pilots and who knows how many other personnel during the height of the pandemic.
Their recent fiasco is directly due to running too close to the edge resource wise, when trouble happens albeit weather, ATC, computer glitches, etc. This is the EXACT scenario Spirit Airlines found theirselves in when they had their meltdown
SWA can’t afford to fire anybody at this point

SWA can’t afford to fire anybody at this point so on 1 thread you support the firing of a head coach for standing up for his body as his own and on another you say SWA cannot afford to fire anyone you're a peach

Need to read that article a bit closer. Southwest has scrapped the plan to release employees who've applied for an exemption but have not yet been approved. If they're unvaccinated and haven't applied for an exemption by the deadline they'll still be out of a job. If the request is ultimately denied they would then be out of a job as well.

Like people, corporations can and do change their minds Do you like apples?

Joel, dont believe everything you see on the www ,nothing new has come from the General Offices today, and in fact I received two emails reminding me to send proof of vax as soon as possible and no later than nov 23,just today,or face a fact finding and then termination. Scagnetti —- you are a spreader of Bogus information,SWA did not and NEVER has laid off or furloughed anyone,I dont know where you come up with this @#$% but lay off it. The shortage in manpower is due to the early retirement and company payed extended time off,(all payed for with COVID relief funds)when called back to service a large number of these employees chose to not come back, the rapid rise in seat miles demand caught them under staffed,it will be months before they can fill the ground ops side of things, and years to catch up on the inflight side, the airlines were just not prepared for the rapid return of and demand for air travel

Read this article: This is Polite Speak for SWA Telling Pilots to Hit the Door [SWA] lost about 630 pilots to buyouts and early retirements during the early days of the pandemic — about 6% to 7% of its total pilot workforceDeal with it!
