You are literally playing with fire! I am a certified chimney Professional. Cleaning your chimney is not the only safety factor. Clearance to combustible’s probably cause more home fires then actual creosote in your chimney. Go to CSIA .org to find your nearest chimney safety institute of America trained professional.

Air Duct cleaning is a gimmick, especially if you have rigid duct work, flex duct is worse. You only need to clean the first 2-3' of rigid duct. If you have flex duct, don't have it cleaned especially if it is older flex, it will destroy the inside.

Reality. What a concept!

I used to sweep mine every year back when i burned wood all winter long. To easy. Haven’t fired it up in about 4 years now.

I agree. I pulled a couple of registers at my first house after 8 years and the ducts had very little dust in them. I have to laugh when I see the Stanley Steamer commercial with the truck load of stuff they cleaned. I have to think when was the last time they cleaned the truck.

We burn mainly pine, lodgepole when we can, and the spouse cleans ours several times over the winter. Not hard but can be messy.

Pine leaves a lot of residue. I would not burn pine, Mesquite, or cedar indoors. A lot of people in the SE have learned the hard way about burning pine. Pine up there may not be as bad as Yellow Pine if dried well.

I pulled up to my buddy's house one Friday evening and saw flames shooting up about 5' over the top of the chimney. We climbed up on the room with a water hose and had it out before the FD was able to show up. Made a HUGE mess inside his living room.

It was a rent house, and he had the landlord out to clean the chimney the next day, and also had to replace some carpets.

We had a chimney fire years ago where we had a wood stove hooked to a masonry fireplace. Just like a rocket engine shooting flames up. Fire department put it out with a hose and it cracked the heck out of the chimney. No bueno if you have creosote built up over the years.

Just finished both using all this plus a good shop vac. It's easier with 2 people for sure. Use that grill scraper for the easy to reach stuff.
