So I got up late due to going out Saturday night, and was leery of how the cold and rainstorm the other day would affect fishing. Eventually I decided to go to Medina because it seems to be less affected by rain than other lakes since it's rockier and less muddy than most Texas lakes. Got on the water around 12 and did see some feeding occassionally, but no luck finding fish for an hour or two until I hooked this bad boy near a rocky shoreline. This is the second or third time I've caught a fish in Medina that I wasn't sure of the species and looking at a picture online I really think it's a smallmouth\largemouth hybrid known as a meanmouth https://shopkarls.com/blog/meanmouth-bass/

It seemed to have a small mouth and was on a steep, rocky shoreline like smallmouths often are. It also fought had for it's size.

Overall slow fishing, I also hooked a decent sized sunfish trolling back across the lake, but it got away at the boat. It's always bad when you land more sticks than fish, but I did get to see several fish including a pretty-big carp checking out some bait I tried. Somehow the water is still almost 80 degrees, so I had a couple swims too which made the slow fishing worth it.

Carl, I believe it’s a mean mouth. A largemouth’s mouth extends beyond it’s eyes. A smallmouth and a spotted bass don’t share that characteristic.
