The first week or so back home I didn't have the energy to cook, but since then I've been able to manage simple meals in the kitchen. Have been relying heavily on Tom Thumb grocery delivery since I got back home. Also have some TFFers to publicly thank in a separate thread.
I ordered a couple 12 packs of beer along with my regular groceries - the delivery driver wanted to take a photo of my ID, and had some worksheet on his phone that he had to fill out to verify my age. Maybe it's overstepping on the store's part, I didn't really care, but I did balk at signing on his phone. I told him through the storm door that he did NOT want me touching his phone right now. He looked at the oxygen line on my face and decided that he wasn't going to argue with me.
Anyways, I've never had my ID checked on a routine grocery delivery before. Weird, especially with all the grey hair on my chin.

How was the grocery order? Was it EXACTLY as it would have been if you were to go yourself? I would like the convenience of delivery, but I’m really picky and OCD about groceries and how they are handled and sacked.

Never done pick up or delivery of groceries, but I dig seeing the business adaptations due to the Rona. Business always figure it out.

How was the grocery order? Was it EXACTLY as it would have been if you were to go yourself? I would like the convenience of delivery, but I’m really picky and OCD about groceries and how they are handled and sacked. "Exactly"? No. On a previous order, I'd requested a family pack of pork chops that were ~$2/lb. The shopper found a package that was $1.49/lb. Oh, wait, that IS something I would've done. I might pick slightly different apples or tomatoes, but the quality of everything I receive is still good. Once in awhile they have to substitute a product that I might not have picked, but it's still something I'll use. For example, they were out of the cat litter I ordered and substituted a different type. But it's still clumping litter, so I can use it. One thing I always look at is the expiration dates on milk and other short-life products. I've yet to have a Tom Thumb order come in with short-dated products. I would prefer to go myself, but . . . well, I spent three minutes on the treadmill today at 1.5mph. That was enough. Doing that as many times a day as I can stand, but I know I'm not ready to go walking through the grocery store for 30-40 minutes, even with an oxygen bottle. The only thing that is a nuisance is when they're out of stock on a specific thing that can't easily get substitutes. I don't find out until they email my receipt, and by that time the order is on the way to me.

Dang, a photo of your ID? I understand it for a car rental or plane tickets but I feel they would keep my info more secure then a delivery driver...
My mom does the pickup ordering from walmart. Ordered what she thought was 1 bundle of bananas cause thats what the picture showed... nope she got home and found 1 banana in the bag. So what did she do the next time? She ordered 10 bananas...well they put 10 bundles in her car!!! Either way who the hell orders 1 banana or 10 bundles!? I suppose she should’ve known by the price but I’m sure she just looked at the total of the whole order and checked out.

My wife does the pickup at the store. It is very convenient, but I worry about the consequences of that convenience. Sometimes I open the pantry door to find 4 of an item we won't use much of and none of other items we use or need. Ordering off of past orders also stops some of the variety you would get in person shopping.

we use it sometimes at Kroger, but only very occasionally now. They without fail want to scan your ID.
Beware of the substitutions. The 18 yr old doofus making the substitutions wont use common sense most times. thats how you get $6.99 T bone steaks substituted with $8/lb london broil. And i swear they are conveniently "out of stock" of 1/4 the stuff you order. More likely they didnt want to spend an extra 2 minutes searching for the right item...

Some items I mark as "no substitutions", like the steaks you're talking about. Others, like a gallon of milk or a bucket of cat litter, I mark as ok to substitute. It's certainly not a perfect way to get groceries, but under my current circumstances it's taken a huge burden off of me.

They've always asked for ID when there's beer in our order whether it's pickup or delivery. It doesn't matter if it's Aldi, Tom Thumb, or Whole Foods - they all do it. They've never asked me to sign anything though.
You are not a good or nice person.

So they have come a long way with this delivery... when I first tried it 3 years ago or so they would not deliver beer at all. No dice.
So that they do it now and just want to check the ID or not seems fair.

I was just thinking about whether they checked ID on alcohol sales for grocery delivery. We dont do the delivery but my wife almost always does curb side. Every time I get carded I ask if its for the senior discount. I'm obviously over 21. It's ridiculous. Man, employees get butthurt when you tell them no. Had one ask for my phone number the other day after an oil change. Told him no a couple times then I got a little irritable. And you should have seen the look on his face whan I told him none of your $%# business. Then he starts in on why not and I say because I don't want you calling or texting me. Duh! I already get a dozen unwanted solicitations per day.

The shopper is in contact with you via the app. They will ask about substitutes as they shop. It’s a nice service for folks that don’t, or can’t shop. I’m only two weeks into not working. I about have a heart attack seeing what groceries cost.
