Just got back from a couple of days at Palo Duro Canyon. You could spend weeks there and not see everything. One of the quietest and darkest at night places I've ever been. Already planning to go back and spend longer.

The Comanches liked it !

2nd largest canyon in the US.

I’ve been several times and only stayed a couple of hours each trip. Beautiful place, but didn’t get off the beaten path. What did you do there? Camp? Any details? Would love to spend some quality time there. Always wondered if the through traffic would effect the camping experience.

We spent Thursday and Friday night there. Stayed in one of the Cow Camp cabins. Basically a stone cabin with beds. We hiked a couple of the trails and just relaxed and enjoyed the peace and quiet.

Planning on taking my kids next year before it gets too hot. It's a beautiful place for sure.

Did you see much wild life? Bears, yotes, deer?

Everything we've read says to go March, April, May, September, October or November. We had great weather. Cool at night and in the mornings but not too hot in the middle of the day. Just not a lot of shade at most campsites we saw. The only big trees are mainly along the river at the bottom.

Really surprised we didn't see any wildlife except for some buzzards, lizards and one big spider my wife nearly stepped on. [Linked Image]
