I'm looking at two used boats. One has a jackplate with 175 merc and one has a 150 merc with no jackplate. What are the pros and cons of any on the jackplate. Both boats are identical otherwise.

100% depends on the boat.
Details will get you correct answers.

The plate on that boat would be an advantage.
2 main reasons,
Ability to exactly adjust motor height.
Setback gives motor leverage to help lift.

On bass hulls that's pretty much a true statement, but until he told us what it's going on, you can't say anything.

There are boats that a plate would not be advised.
Obvious like a pontoon
Big center consoles with 25” shaft.
Bass tracker with a 40.
And on and on.
So you find out first.

he tells ya what its on (second post)???....but whatever.. ya'll jus wanna argue huh!.. i would say yes if for no other reason would be "undisturbed" transom thru bolts for any kinda motor pull.. although with some so called dealers/mechanics it might be a good idea to pull and reseal... but thats my opinion only..............

but do agree with something like a "startin' motor" like tha 40 ya mention!!!

It's been outstanding. As long as we don't get one of those twisty things out of the gulf, it will continue to be outstanding. Come on down and get you some.

I been using a 21' bay boat with 150 honda with 25" shaft now for three years that has an electric jackplate; I use the jackplate all the time and love it. A jackplate allows you to trim the motor elevation to match needs and thus allows you to me most efficient with fuel use. You can easily gain or loose 3 to 5 MPH just my adjusting the motor elevation.

The discussion was manual plates. Hydraulics is another discussion.

Where do you see that the discussion was limited to manual plates?
