I am looking to do some fishing in some rather popular areas this weekend. Hoping to avoid the crowds, I was planning on fishing in the rain. My question is, what safety precautions should be taken? Obviously, I know not to fish if there is a lot of lightening around, but how about if there is no lighting and just rain. I know the chances of getting struck by lightening are slim, but I know it happens to fisherman every year and I do not want to be next. Any help or safety precautions would be appreciated

Well...get ya some good rain gear AND waterproof boots. UNLESS of course ya don't mind bein' all wet all day long. Watch out for fire ants...when their mounds get flooded, they just roam the shoreline, and if ya see a lump of brownish red foam...DON'T TOUCH IT...it's fireants. Also...heavy rain will wash their mounds off, so you can end up standing right on a mound and not know it until ya have 200 of the little turds on you.

Watch out if you're fishing where a creek comes in...you never know when a hellacious rise could occur. Also...be careful fishing in generally low areas...you don't want to be distracted fishing and suddenly find out that the spot you're fishing has become an island. Leave your gear several feet from the water's edge in case the lake is rising fairly rapidly, that way you don't have to keep moving it. Be careful of the mud and sloped areas that may be slick.

No fish is too good for the grease.

If you are in a boat make sure your bilge pump works.
