For the folks down there bass fishing the Frio, what tips can share for catching bass? Going to fish some Saturday afternoon. Maybe Sunday afternoon. Is the water super clear? DM if you like. Ive never been there. Assuming it’s clear water and need to use very natural looking baits.

I’ve caught fish there on wacky rigged senkos. Yes, water is clear.

Crystal clear water in that upper river area. Very spooky fish. Spinning rod w/a chartruse colored curly tailed grub on a jig head. [Linked Image]

Crystal clear water. If you can find some deep pockets you can catch some nice Guadalupe Bass. Part of the Frio that flows at the end of Garner State Park below the dam has some nice deep pockets. Seen some nice bass this past spring. Most of the Frio runs through private property. Make sure you get land owners permission. State park property goes back about 100 yards from their dam. After that the property is all private. Clearly posted. thumb

Thanks, guys. I emailed the house rental company about fishing and got this response. I guess I need to buy some hooks!

“ I wish I could give you better information as to what type of lures to bring. As far as I know the common type of lure is your basic hook, we do have some people who show up with bigger fancy looking lures, but I wouldn't be able to tell you that it did or didn't work. You might want to check the information page on the Garner Park website.”

Ultralight clear top waters if you can get on the water before any floaters. Make really long casts. They spooky but plenty of nice fish in there around the state park I've seen. Light line fluorocarbon and wacky rigs also ned rigs. Watermelon colors. Gotta be stealthy

Anything over 6 lb test and you're wasting your time. Take the above lures and also put a Beatle spin in there. I have also thrown a mico crankbait with good success but be prepared to lose them. Have to make as long a cast as possible, fish spook easy.

We fished and got skunked. I used light fluoro and wacky rigged finesse worms in watermelon color. I got a lot of bites, but did not hook up. The fish were tight to the bank under trees. Gin clear water so you could see the bass. Pretty cool. Thanks for the tips.

Agree, this would be my first choice. Strange maybe but also solid black curly tail will perform well on occasion.
