If the trolling motor is mounted to the front of the boat it helps to have some kind of rudder on the back of the boat. Sure makes it easier to control

I have a 55 lb Minkota on the front of a 10ft boat with live well and two men in it and I have never killed it totally in10 years. I know I have fished 4 miles and back a few times in the bayou. New group 27 battery every year and paddles just in case.

Buy a spare battery to take along with you.
