So dad passed from covid a couple weeks ago. One thing I did this year was sign up for "Storyworth", which is a service that sends a question via email each week to a loved one and then combines their answers into a book for Christmas or a birthday or whatever. I had signed him and mom up in January and got 6 months of him telling us parts of his life and his experiences that we never would have had otherwise. If you've still got your parents around, you really should consider this.

Is Storyworth a company or a link ? Money involved I assume ? Great idea for sure.
My father is 87 , generally in good health and very active . About 6 or 7 years ago , I asked him to recount family stories that we either had heard or didn't hear and write them down .
Since he is very good on a computer he started doing it ----- one was a story from his Air Force days as a flight engineer on a B29 . When I read it , I was overwhelmed with pride --- he has saved the life of his crew for detecting a fuel leak seconds before take off and aborting the flight .
These are the stories we need to pass along --- or the next generation will never know .

Sorry for not explaining better. Storyworth is a company that provides the service. I think it's $89 or something, and that includes a year full of emails and the book itself. Not a great value - you could definitely do the same thing yourself and order a book for $30-$40, but the company makes picking questions easy and I think most folks are more likely to respond to something you spent money on than emails from you directly. My dad was anyway.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I tried something similar. I bought my parents a HD video camera and tripod for Christmas about 7 years ago. My dad had recently recently received a heart transplant. The idea was to leave the cam setup in the living room or outside and turn it on to record their memories, stories and insights. Dad passed away 2 months later. All we got was the recordings at Christmas. I wouldn’t trade them for the world.

Sorry to hear about your father. Sounds like a real cool idea and I could see how after having a loved one pass, that book would be priceless.

Did Storyworth for my Aunt & Uncle (in their 90's) as Christmas gift. Will be good to hear their story.

Looking into this now, was just thinking about how I need to get my parents stories together while they are still around.

I read posts like this and it makes me really jealous that you guys have a father that you like enough to actually miss when he's gone . Mine was a animal to me , I was the mistake , But he loves my brother in law and says he is the son he never had .
