I need some help...I recently inherited over 5700 off-shore waypoints on a single GPX (Garmin) file and I need help with some kind of software to manage these...The Garmin units I have will only handle up to 5k waypoints so I can't simply upload them to my units...Google Earth Pro as far as I know wont handle this many...The waypoints cover a large area from East of Destin, FL all the way west to the eastern edge of TX...I want to trim this into 2 groups...The FL group and the New Orleans/Louisiana/Texas and west area but I have to be able to upload the whole group into something in order to start breaking it apart...Anyone have an ideas on something to can handle this many points ?

THanks

Lowrance units can handle that many in their unit and you can export them by region. I assume Simrad can do the same thing since they ae very similar and both owned by Navico. Take the micro SD card up to Bass Pro Shops or someplace else that has Lowrance displays and pop it into their unit. Upload the waypoints real quick and then export them by region saving them as GPX files and then deleting them out of the unit. It will take you longer to park and walk back to the counter if you have any basic knowledge of the Navico operating systems. An employee may be able to help you as well.

Another option is a program called Reef Master. It isn't very expensive for the basic version but you will be able to do some waypoint management in it and it is pretty simple to use. Humminbird PC will work too if you just want to split it from one Longitude to another to break them in half.

I use ExpertGPS to upload and manage waypoints and tracks. It works very well and is fairly inexpensive. I asked them this morning and they said no limit to the number of waypoints. You can convert many waypoint formats and export your data if you want to edit the data in Excel.
