It's not hot enough for Celsius yet

I am in NE Texas. Derek, what would you recommend for Henbit? It has literally taken over our yard. Thanks Daniel

Hey Daniel. Henbit is pretty easy. Just about any 3-way will control it post. What's your turf? Pre is key. It's a winter weed. Stay on a hardcore pre emergent to get ahead of the game. Isoxaben, Prodiamine, Dithiopyr. Prod/Iso is a great program to roll with.

Derek or anyone,

Does anyone know what this weed is? It isn't Burrweed as it has no burrs ever and has a tap root. But it replicates very quickly over a year. It does produce tiny white flowers about 1/16" big as it gets hotter in the year. And stays green until winter then the same plant greens up again the next year. Its in my bermuda and taking over.
Thanks Rick

Derek,

I'm itching to put out my Prodiamine on my St Aug lawn in Houston area. The label shows it's effective once watered and for 14days afterward and so the timing of the application with weed germination seems to be pretty critical.

According to the website (https://www.greencastonline.com/tools/soil-temperature), local soil temps here are currently ~87degF and I seem to recall soil temps of 70degF are when generation cranks up. In looking at the 5 and 10yr soil temp averages for my area, 70degF happens at about mid-Oct.

So, should I hold off with the Prodiamine until towards end of Sept?

Thanks

You're misinterpreting the wording a little wrong. The label says to be most effective it needs to be water in with in 14 days of application. Not that it is only effective for 14 days after watering. Prodiamine is effective in the soil for months after you water it in. Depending on your application rate. Depending on what product you use will see max per 1000 per year or max per acre per year. The two most common products. Barricade and Lesco. Same active ingredient in both products. But they have a different percentage of AI in each product.

Barricade(0.58 AI Prodiamine) yearly max is 6lbs per 1000.
Lesco Stonewall (0.68 AI Prodiamine yearly max is 5lbs per 1000.

Example - Prodiamine I like to do two 6 month apps. So if I'm using Stonewall on 5k sq feet. September 1st I'll apply 2.5lbs per 1000 for a total of 12.5llbs over that 5k. I'll do that again February 1st. And that will give me my yearly total of 5lbs per 1000 per year.

If you're using a product like Gallery for a more broadleaf weed control. You would be better off getting the year max and divide that by 4 and apply every 3 months.

In the Houston area you should be golden to pick any date your want between Sept 15th and October 1st. Just remember what your September date is and do that same date in February for Prodiamine.
