hey guys: I just wanted to respond to this cruiser down thing. My sons and I are the ones who tried to help these guys out. We saw the whole thing from the onset. They tried to come over the old spillway from the lake dallas side to the lewisville side at what I determined was about half to 3/4 throttle. we saw one of the guys go in afterward and come back up. He said the prop was gone and there was 2 foot hole. So I assume they just ripped the lower unit off. The driver told me that he thought they had about 30 minutes so requested a tow. We tried to go back to the marina on the lake dallas side. We tried but after getting back around to the dallas side the boat started listing to the left side and I told the boys to cut the ropes. there was nothing more we could do. We got the women and the one guy named adam on our boat. the driver would not come but wanted to stay with the boat as long as he could. We took them back to Sneaky Pete's. I do think that they had had a drink or two but did not seem to be incapacitated. No stagerring or speech slurring. Some one said something about towing this boat to shallow water but I dont know where that would have been. It is all deep water around there. We tried our best to help save the boat. We did help save four peoples lives. that is the good part of it all. If anyone has any in formation as to who these people were I would sure like to know how to get a hold of them. By the way my boat was the four winns deck boat that was in several of these picture. Ron

No one appreared drunk because a missing prop and a 2 foot hole in an $80K boat will sober your ARSE right on up! Great job, Capt, for being in the wrong place at the right time. People probably didn't get hurt because of your level head. You and your sons ought to be commended!
It has been fun watching this particular thread.
Thank the Lord no one was hurt, now let's get back to the war of words.

I work with Captainron. Really good guy. He was telling me about the boat and I told him I already knew about it because it was on here. Welcome to the forum Captainron.

Glad to see everyone's so happy at the expense of others - true humanitarians. Where was the photograher when this boat was sinking? Why wasn't he/she rendering aid as is detailed in the TXPWD's sections on boating and is considered common maritime courtesy? When in distress, it is a MANDATORY for all mariners to render aid and assistance when and where necessary. Guess you failed in that aspect. Quite miserably, I might add...
And no, that boat was not "Daddy's boat," it was someone like you or me who chose to spend their discretionary income on a boat. Much similar to you spending your hard earned money on a fishing boat, lures, poles, and, of course, beer.
Please do fish over the wreck - if you so choose to do so. As a fellow boater, I really do enjoy "dancing on the grave" and take great pride in gloating over the misfortune of others. How very big of you. Never mind it will probably be pulled from the lake withing the next week or so as mandated by TXPWD. It is considered a navigational and environmental hazard and must be removed.
As a fellow boater on Lewisville Lake, I'm ashamed of the cavalier attitudes of some of you so called "boaters." Hope I never have to depend on your help in a crisis. You, however, can depend on me to be there for YOU and I won't laugh about when I throw you a line for tow or pull your butt from the water...
Grow up people... Nice first post. What kind of fishing do you like to do?
Joe

They tried to come over the old spillway from the lake dallas side to the lewisville side
If I remember correctly, I believe there are signs posted on the old spillway warning vessels to stay back a number of feet from the spillway. They may have been under water with the water level so high. I guess he must have hit the concrete structure.

Know before you go, Maps, word of mouth, Common sense, Other peoples lives are at stake. Know where you are. If you are on unknown waters, it is up to you to know where the F*#@ your are. It's a shame this happened but it could have been avoided

Ouch... Trying to go over that spillway!!! Bo and Luke haven't got anything on them.
I hate to see the misfortune of others, but it's not like that spillway just popped up over night. That damn thing has been there for over 60 years.
Just think, if they had gone actually gone through the cut-out at 3/4 speed, they might have killed somebody.
Drunk or not, the inexperienced boat operator scares me more than anyone on the lake. Good Riddance.
Blowboater, Go crawl back under your bridge.

I saw the boat in question tonight. Its on land now. Both props are on the boat, but the right side prop is bent up a bit. Searched all over the bottom of the boat, didn't see a hole, but you could see where the left outdrive had moved within the trasom. So thats probably where the water came in.

Talk about seeing the future. Fellow TFF'er Vaughn and I were fishing there earlier and noticed the old spillway was slightly submerged. We guessed it would only be a matter of time before someone clobbered it. Vaughn had to go about 1:00 p.m. I went back to the Lewisville side in the corner, but the spillway just looked like a booby trap, it gave me the creeps and I left about 2:30. Spooky. Good job hauling those folks out, I'm glad they're ok. Expensive lesson, but I bet they learned it well. Kudos to all you Good Samaritans. Proud of ya.
He leadeth me beside still waters.
