Found a crack in my lower unit that’s leaking oil, it doesn’t look like a giant crack more than likely caused from frozen water. Is there any way I can put a temporary fix on it while I look for and afford a new lower unit? I was thinking JB or welding because it’s a relatively small openings. What are y’all’s thoughts?

The right person and equipment can weld it.

you would have to strip it completely and clean all oil from the inside to weld it. prolly cheaper and easier to get a new lower unit, maybe a after market one. in the mean time, why not try JB Weld? nothing to lose and it might hold up. i've seen it hold up on a motorcycle transmission.

I use JB Weld all the time. Great stuff! But, for your problem, I would recommend Marine-Tex. Like JB Weld, but stronger, and adheres better. Comes in a grey or white color. Grey is stronger. Costs more, but you usually get what you pay for! IslandJim

New aftermarket lowers are less than a grand. I dont know about epoxy. With that being a crack your really looking more at putting something over the outside of it and hoping it sticks while you plow through the water. You arent going to get the inside of that crack clean enough to get an epoxy like j-b weld to stick and its going to have to be water tight. Id probably look at having it welded.
