I’m headed down to Louisiana this weekend to bring my mom my generator, they have been told they might be without electricity for about a month. It’s a 10000 starting, 7500 watt running. She has this plug connected to her circuit breaker for a generator. My generator has a 220 outlet on it, anyone know where I can get a 220 extension cord with male plugs on both ends? Also, anyone know how much a 7500 watt generator will run. Yes I know 7500 watts but what does that mean for a non electrician. Fridge, window ac unit and other small electronics or will that be too much? What happens if the generator is overloaded? Will circuit breakers pop or will the electronics just not turn on? I don’t wanna burn her house down. Sorry for the dumb questions. If anyone has anything they need delivered to family in Louisiana let me know, I can bring it to them. I will be leaving early Saturday morning. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/08/full-64792-109486-270b5b17_51b5_4526_9a6d_9dde17c42c18.jpeg)

Anything that produces heat uses a lot of power. If my math is correct you have about 68 watts with that generator.
She should be fine with normal household appliances.

I have an old 2500 Honda that I bought after Hugo. I made a heavy duty cord with two male plugs and I throw the main breaker when it's in use. I can't cook or run much that makes heart with it, but it'll run the fridge and freezer.

I have the double male end set up for my house. Buy as much (10awg I believe) wire as you need to safely keep the gen outside away from house, then wire a dryer outlet plug to each end. Plug one to gen, one to either dryer plug or preferably outlet in garage or breaker box. Make sure main is shut off, my 7500 watt will run all we need except AC. But I keep minimal lights on, and run pool as needed to keep from turning. Great tool to have on the gulf coast.

You can't buy male to male. You have to make them. You can google how to do it by searching, "how to make a suicide cord." Note the name. Be extremely careful. Make sure you've shut the main off so you don't kill a lineman. Shut all the breakers off. Make sure you hook up the cord to the box and the generator before before you start the generator. Only turn on the breakers you need one at a time.
7500W will run a window unit, a fridge, and a few other basic things. Keeping it fed with fuel is going to be your main challenge.
Be safe.

they won't sell any male to male cords due to electrocution hazard. go buy an rv male plug for her end, super simple install and you can use an rv extension cord with it. any rv place should have them. wal mart has good 30a cords, I use one on my place at the lake. been good for over 8 yrs. now. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.zoro.com/static/cms/product/large/Steiner%20Electric%20Company_Leviton5278FWP.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/dd5459f5-b22b-4399-abae-931726446792.075465f6f7f0abda680a8bac322d7613.jpeg)

Be safe. Yeah, fuel consumption will be a real problem if you intend/wish to run continuously. My cheap Powermate 5000 watt with a pretty steady high load was burning through about one gallon per hour during the the winter outage.

My neighbor tried that and it didn't come out of the outlets right. I think I'd rather run extension cords to individual appliances/lamps/ac.

That generator isn't going to be a lot of good without gasoline to run it and all the gas stations down there won't have power for almost as long as your Mom. Probably need to take at least 50 gal of gas with you and stabilizer to boot. Be ready to make repeated re fuel trips.

Just built my cord Saturday using a 4 prong 50 amp RV cord (50') and added a male plug by cutting 2' off the female end. I also added my female permanent inlet to the breaker box. On the 10awg wire that will be undersized for anything more than 30 amps. The cord I used is a 4-wire 6awg cord and is good for 50 amps. Told and repeated several times to my boys the dangers of 2 male ends. The twist-lock end you are looking for should be available at hardware and lumber stores but it will be very hard to put a larger wire under the lugs. That generator you are taking will very easily handle a 50 amp feed. If you can find a longer range cable that will probably be stranded #8 which is good for 40 amps. Here's my set-up: + +![[Linked Image]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71O2jebEt-L._AC_SL1500_.jpg)

Be safe. You are back feeding the house , leave all breakers off, and specially and most importantly the main.

I assume the store/fuel pumps are on generator power.

Be safe. I’m not sure I want to go the suicidal core route since my step dad will be handling it once I leave. Can I get an adapter to hook up to the wall side instead?
