A co-worker, his wife, and their jack russell terrier were fishing out at the grasslands at clear lake. I don't even know where that is, anyway the dog had been kinda rambunctious; barking and running around. If I remember correctly when they were ready to leave the little dog started growling when they were almost to the truck. They turned around to find about a 3' tall black panther walking towards them about 20' away. He said when they made eye contact the cat turned and casually walked into the woods. Very scary!!

I have seen some very large cat tracks out at the grasslands before, when I used to Deer & Turkey hunt there. Really would like to see a picture of one though.

Did he have a rifle and chant "No justice, no peace!" over and over? KD

There have been big cats in the Caddo National Grasslands area for as long as there has been means to report them.
There is one now roaming between Ivanhoe and Duplex, being seen by several people lately.
Last year, I saw one near Riverby crossing the road just a couple of car lengths in front of me. Not black but as about dark brown as you can get, with a long tail and small head, about the size of a labrador.

Tude that sounds like a cougar you don't see them very often and you don't see to many black panthers anymore. A camera would have been great.

I live in far northeast Arlington near where the Trinity flows by Riverside Golf Course. We have a park in the neighborhood.
A few weeks ago an article appeared in the Arlington Star Telegram about the sitings by several people of a mountain lion between our neighborhood park and the park that runs along the Trinity about where Cooper meets Green Oaks Blvd. in North Arlington.

I've hunted cougar in west Texas and SE New Mexico for years as well as seeing a couple in the hillcountry of Texas. The only thing that resembled a cougar was the tail length and shape. It also wasn't a Jaguarundi. Agreed, a camera would have been great at the time but there was no time to snap a shot before he jetted off into the treeline.

I've seen a black panther in my neck of the woods , but it's been years . The cat had a VERY long tail , it went to the ground and curled back up . The color of the cat was so black it looked blue . I checked the paw prints later , they were as big as my hand .
This thread needs more cowbell ...

I was headed to Lake Texoma a few years ago and a black panther crossed the river bottom by the dam. It had a long tail, and was solid black, looked like it weighed about 100 pounds. It was about 7 feet long from head to tail.

ROFL, No justice no peace Too bad Forrest Gump wasn't around to ruin the Black Panther Party I frequent the North Arlington Parks regularly, (live about 100ft from River Legacy) and I have never seen anything more than an oversized house cat. But, now don't ya'll think old BL is going a little loopy or anything...but while fishing Lake Arlington from a boat a couple of months ago, I saw something that didn't seem quite right. We were near the middle of the west side of the lake, adjacent to a densely wooded area, when some movement off in the woods caught my eye. Whatever it was, it was graceful, light colored (tan or orange?) and at least 6 ft from head to tail. I could not get a good look at the head from my position, and I did think about fishing my camera out of the tackle box, but it moved into some thicker brush before I could get to it. It's movements were much more fluid than a canine, and I almost thought I saw a few stripes. There are plenty of folks who keep illegal big cats as pets in this state and it's easy to imagine that one who escaped or was let go could have been attracted to that area (there were plenty of stinkn' dead carp floating about) Who knows?...BL

I just got back from Clearlake on the LBJ grasslands, Is THAT why my buddy and I were tubeing alone?? Cool, I just saw bigfoot too !! That should keep everyone away from that little Honey Hole for the rest of the summer . Myself and some other tubers are planning another night time tubeing trip this friday in the same area. This time I'm going to wear some feathers and make turkey noises , maybe even blow on the old rabbit in distress call, drag a stuffed animal along the bank and see if I can get a hook in this "black Panther". Should be fun, do you think I should use my Abu Garcia on it? I gotta see the "Fishing Jack Russel Terrier" Too!!!

KD You have no idea how hard I'm laughing here! When I read your post, I started chuckling - then my wife dropped something in the kitchen - she thought I was laughing at her. I was wiping tears when I showed her what started it - too funny!
