Anyone here done it? Would you be concerned with the added weight of a thin stone veneer over an existing brick fireplace? Home built in late 60’s on slab foundation. Huge fireplace- 8’x8’ with hearth, dual sided. Currently it’s painted and we are wanting to do a make over. Looking for OT wisdom. Thanks.

 you should be alright, if you really want to be sure you can drill thru at the front of the firebox and check thickness just patch hole with some of the mortar. back then they did thickened slabs since the fireplace had to be built in place unlike the metal bs we have now.

We do about 100k ft of it a year, I have a better alternative for your application. It’s going to be a pain nailing lath over the brick. Use senergy wall systems senershiel r, roll on applied over the painted brick. Then use the Maxgrip adhesive, simply add water and stick it. They are the first to come out with adhering simulated stone over an Eifs system and not using metal lath and scratch. If you need help getting the material I can get you hooked up or bring some next time I’m at Fork. This is a new system and we were the first in the US to do it.

check out Texas Stone Designs it is manufactured in Arlington. You can stick it directly to your brick using M1 adhesive, but you will have to start at the bottom and use spacers or shims between the rocks until it sets up
