As recently as ten days ago I was hammering big sandbass and the occasional hybrid at Tawakoni. I’ve fished the same areas the last couple of days with very little success. I’m still marking tons of fish but they won’t bite the lures that were working less than two weeks ago. It happens around this time every year. Does anyone know a way to catch these fish without trolling a hell pet or using live bait?

Downsize your lures.

Agree with Champion.
Like you I prefer not to troll or live bait fish but this time of year it is very tough to catch fish with lures.
Do a search for Dennis Christians posts. Mepps method seems to work.

It's happening here at Cedar Creek. Use the #2 Mepps technique shown in the YouTube video (link to it in signature block below).

Deadstick in the mid of winter .4mph
Troll @ 4.0mph in the dead of summer
Should give you some clue as the the speed they are expecting to see your bait move.

I did well Friday using Dennis's #2 technique. Small spoons tie under 1/2 oz weight work as well. But would catch one about every 5 casts though. Yep it's that time of the year every year, lol, where i spotlock, catching, and make friendly conversations with trollers circling close around me roflmao
