Got to the lake just before sunrise, and fished until 4pm. Light winds, cloudy skies and not too hot all helped out. Was planning to go with friend Lloyd, but a sick horse, broke a/c & a unhappy wife was the perfect storm to stay home. Water temp on the lake was around 94 degrees most places I fished. I was one of 3 trucks in the parking lot, so not very crowded. Caught a boatload of fish, with some real good ones mixed in. Lots of Red Ear were playing today, and caught 3 Rios when targeting them on the rocks. The Rios were only around 6 inches long, but shows they were not killed off in the big freeze last winter. All fish caught on Gulp Alive 1" minnows & released for future meetings. [Linked Image]

Man I wish this lake was closer to me. Seems to be a great place for all kinds of ultralight fishing.

Vogey - check the Park Prairie Facebook page. Beginning August 16 they will be paving the parking lots for both launches and you will need to call to see which one is open or closed at the time. They will close one at a time. You can call 979-249-3504 for updates.

Hoping to go Friday. Good job as always Steve. Today would have been a good one to go as well but I wanted to smoke some ribs.

Jim...Thanks for the heads up on the park closures.
David & Yesenia...For me, it's a 1 hour and 45 minute drive each way, but well worth it.
Thanks Chuck, Curtis, Jagg, Doc & Tom for the replies...

The great year continues. Love the pictures and your post. You have mastered Fayette just like you had mastered Dunlap! As always great post Vogey and thanks for sharing. As been said many of times in the past. I sure want to go fishing after seeing and reading a Vogey thread.

I have been reading other post in different forums about cast netters being a problem on Fayette. Since you fish Fayette on a regular basis, what is your opinion Vogey?

Thanks F4 for the comment ...

Tom...I know this is a very touchy subject, & read all the comments on the forum. This is my opinion only, and not based on any science, so here we go: Yes, there are way too many tilapia in the lake & should have never been introduced to the lake in the 1st place. But they are there & we just have to deal with it. They are a food source for the bass, but just competition for the bluegill (mostly space). The cast netters take out a fraction of the overall population as I see thousands of Tilapia beds all over the lake when scanning. I also do not believe that the cast netters have a significant impact on the bass population as the bass fishing for me, has gotten better and better over the winter months the past 5 years. The cast netters have to focus on a very narrow depth range, and cannot throw the nets in the trees, reed beds or in 20+ feet of water. Bottom line for me, is that they are a pain in the a$$ & get in the way sometimes, but really hasn't impacted the fishing all that much. I do agree that cast netting should not be allowed during the bass spawning season(Feb-April) but am also convinced that a lot of bass spawn in the massive reed fields where the cast netters can't get to them. As far as the laws that apply, the cast netters should be held accountable like anyone else. The excuse that they are not given tickets because they just won't pay the fines is totally ridiculous. If they don't pay the fines they should go to jail. 2cents
