Would depend on what my other setups are. Typically when I purchase a new rod/reel I have a technique in mind first.

For me personally I will only use a < 7'6 rod for topwater, spinnerbaits/chatterbaits, or jerkbaits. I prefer a medium action for smaller topwaters such as poppers and propbaits, and jerk baits. So I would spool with 20 lb fluoro and probably use it for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits, or spool it with braid for throwing larger topwaters like spooks.

I would agree personally, but if itโ€™s a true med/hvy it would prob work ok (if itโ€™s a Dobyns med/hvy then itโ€™s definitely too light). Iโ€™m not talking about the kind of frogging where you cast 1/2 a mile. In my opinion that 6โ€™10โ€ with a 7.1 gear ratio is kind of a funky setup (my opinion) anyways. But then again, guys used 5โ€™6โ€ pistol grips for years and they managed to catch plenty of fish.

I have several rods in the 6ft 8in to 6ft 10in. range with 8-1 gear ratio reels on them. I use them for finesse fishing, weightless senko's, and flukes. Nothing "funky" about that set up. It works just fine.
