I'm wanting to take the wife on a nice mountain vacation next summer and need some help please. What we would like is to stay on a private ranch (1000+ acres) that has cabins or lodging. A place we can hike, and hopefully the ranch has UTV'S to possibly rent or use to drive around. Don't need meals provided but if they are that would be ok too. Looking for a place that's not crowded. We like to hike and just sightsee, don't need a lot of activities to do.

Thanks for any ideas. Had to cancel our vacation this year and would like to book a special one for next year.

not new mexico but would fit the bill for what you want nicely.
I guided for this place a long long time ago, changed ownership for sure so no idea how they do things now (guy I worked for went to prison for a few things).

piedra river is right there, hiking right across the forest service road or see if they rent horses. it is the weiminuche wilderness area, no gas anything allowed off the road.

may check and see if they or one of the outfitters at vallecito will do a summer trout fishing camp at one of the high country lakes, they drop ya off and come back to get ya or you can have a guide.

new mexico, look around chama for "dude ranches" I think there are some in that area.

I just spent three weeks in Taos (got home a few weeks ago) and everything was opened up when we were there.

Ted Turner has a massive 2000 acre ranch in northern New Mexico. I have a friend who spends some time there, not sure how but
he says its awesome. That is of course if you don't mind giving your money to a hard core Lib.

Check out areas in Lake City and Creede, beautiful country. Float the Rio Grand if you are into rafting or drift fishing.

Thanks for the info everyone, keep it coming. Not looking for resort-dude ranch type deal. Just a private ranch with nice lodging. But I'm looking at everything suggested. Thanks

Been there a few times already, thanks though. Actually stayed at the East Moreno Ranch.
