I waited all day...not one person posted this. Never would have taken this long before the BBC hostile takeover.

Where I live in Burleson they’re bad every year. I walk 3 miles a day and it’s usually after work and dinner so anywhere from 8:00-10:00pm. Probably kill 4-7 a year but this year I’ve killed 9. I live in a decent populated subdivision but somewhat country as I see deer, coons, bullfrogs, foxes and snakes. I started walking with a walking stick 4 years ago just for snakes. As mentioned it’s the cicadas as most I kill are around oak trees under security lights. It’s been my observation they like light at night and especially around oak trees. They also hide between the sidewalk and grass in the area that’s been edged in that little trench. You can tell the juveniles by their green tail, some have a little yellow tint. Copperheads aren’t real aggressive, most bites are from stepping on them or trying to kill them like my dumb arse. Be careful fellas!! Buddy of mine raises Arabian horses just south of Burleson. His wife got hit in the ankle going out to feed dogs one night. It was in the kennel with dogs. They kill several every year.

I have several large pin-oaks but haven't seen any cicadas or coppers . Thinking all the cicada nymphs might have drowned this year . They might be out there but I rarely go outside after dark . Largest copper I've seen here was about 40" long .
I do have a healthy population of possums , though . They're some snake-eating mofos .

We don't have Copperheads, but typically I kill around 10 or so rattlers a year. Knock on wood but I have only seen one all year out here even with all the rainfall and he was scootin' across the road I couldn't even get a good skid on him.

Folks in Flower Mound constantly posting vids on Facebook of Copperhead encounters on the walking trails. I am out there all the time and have not seen one and hoping it stays that way. Definitely seems to be more in our area this year. Lots of copperheads in that area. I worked with a lady that was bit pulling weeds in a flower garden. It was not a dry bite. The town north of Flower Mound was once called copperhead canyon, but they changed the name so people would move in....( this was a story I was told in high school.... I have never researched this...)

I wonder how a pet, pot-bellied pig would be for killing copperheads after dark? Chickens and guineas will kill copperheads during the daytime.

Are any of y'all seeing more than normal this year? Or in new places? One of my good buddies got bit the other weekend at my folks house on Nocona, we've been there for over 20 years and have only seen/killed one. Same weekend a neighbor also killed one. Granted we've killed plenty all around the area, but never anywhere close to the house. Saw something on FB that for whatever reason there are more this year.
Both the one that bit him, and the one the neighbor killed were little babies, no bigger round than my index finger. Need some feral hogs. They'll clean them copperheads up !
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

I hate snakes…. So far just a couple of water moccasin have ventured onto our property. We have copperheads here but so far I have been lucky.

Just a couple out here so far this year. I am sure I will see more. I hate them especially after one decided to bite me several years back.

Abundant cicada hatch this year. Copperheads love cicadas and come out in droves around trees, structures, and landscaping hunting those noisy morsels. I've heard that as well
