My nephew is about to go there and wanted to know where it is safe to run. The last time I was there was about 35 years ago. If I remember correctly, it was fairly safe to run in the main lake except one area where the river channel “sort of made a split” towards the south end. It seems like I remember some timber being in one of those channels that “splits.” If you took the wrong one you may end up having a bad day. I don’t want to give him the wrong info and him end up needing a new lower unit. Thanks

Have a Blessed Day,
Mike

Above/North/upstream from the Katy Bridge(1713) about 1/2 mile above Cedar Creek things get a bit sketchy. As you get towards White Bluff, Steele Creek… up to Lakeside Village you need to stay in the old river channel. What looks clear has big trees outside the channel. A little after Lakeside Village the river becomes easy to follow. My Navionics chip shows the channel well. Pretty accurate quite a ways above the 174 bridge. Main lake below/south/ downstream from Katy Bridge to the dam? Common sense. Some shallow areas around McCown park all the around that bend. Also some points that stick way out, timber back in some of the creeks…..but basically w/a little common sense the main lake is easy to run.

Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. I remember some of those trees up north. Back then, you could see some of those trees. It’s little hard reaching back in the old memory bank. In those days, all I had was a paper map and a flasher. There’s probably some areas I shouldn’t have been running but I guess I was “bulletproof” back then. I’ll pass the info on to my nephew. Once again, thanks.

Have a Blessed Day,
Mike
