Need to replace the wife’s vehicle soon (probably 2020 would’ve been the right time, but that didn’t work out for a couple reasons). Not sure when we’ll pull the trigger, but it probably will be soon.

Once they manufacture and ship the chips, the pendulum will swing back and vehicle prices will crater. You just gotta hold out and make due until then. My guess is chips going into vehicles in October with the glut of new vehicles available in December. Once it swings back, the only thing that will still be in demand is the new full size Bronco. People who buy now and make payments are going to be upside down in their loan next year. Question is “Who is manufacturing these chips?”

Bought the wife a loaded 2020 suburban premier, got 16k off MSRP. They're pretty much giving me MSRP back towards a new 2021 XL Yukon. Ordered it three weeks ago, will probably see it by September. Best part of the chip shortage, you don't have to get the mandatory auto start/shutoff BS.

I would give it until first of 2022. The market has to soften some by then. When Delta Variant realizes it will not win and more folks get vaccinated, normalcy will start to set in and all these folks that have the new cars and toys they bought will finally realize that the Gov’t will not continue to pay for them…..they will go back to work and sell off the stuff that they bought. It’ll happen.

Just checked prices on cargurus site. I think I could get at least $6,000 more for my 2020 F-150 than I paid for it last year, including sales tax and fees. But then there is the problem of replacing it.

Got a cousin who just bought a new Ram 2500, crewcab, diesel, 4x4, loaded to the gills, paid 85k for it . Traded in his 2017 Ram 1500 ecodiesel also loaded for just 3k less than what he paid for it new, crazy .

I’d worry about the quality of anything built this year. As jacked as the supply chain is right now, who knows what issues will turn up in components being shipped to make a vehicle.

I lucked out and sold our 2 older vehicles and bought 2 new ones and a beater commuter car all last year early in Covid. Planning to keep these for a long time...$8k for a 2014 Camry, $25k for a 2017 Acura MDX with 25k miles, and $40k for a 2019 Silverado 2500 Duramax with 38k miles. I don't think you could touch those prices now...and I don't envy anyone in the market for a newer vehicle...

There is one dealer around here that has added some "COVID-19 Shortage / Demand" upcharge on their vehicles. All of the other dealers are still making deals as they always have.

First the first time in 1.5 years trucks at the auction have gone down. We have almost all of our inventory listed for what we have in it. Every vehicle on my website you see listed with a $xx,999 at the end is listed at cost to hurry up and move them to adjust for a market slip. It has nothing to do with chips, this is just a slow time of year for vehicle sales in general. September it will go back again and get crazy. www.texasmotorcars.com
