several years ago was driving across Texas near Childress when I saw these.....not sure why anybody would have camels in Texas, maybe they were related to the guy who burried Cadillacs with the tail fins sticking up in the air....

There's some on a high fence ranch near Valera.

Are you sure that is not nearer to Wichita Falls? I believe a place maybe between there and Henrietta had some in a pasture on 82 ? We always saw them on our yearly drive to Muenster or Grapevine. They have been gone a while now.
I could be mistaken on just where but we always saw them too. The trees had a distinct browse line. We still look for the Santa in the convertible outside of Vernon , I think it is, every Christmas trip down 287.

We still look for the Santa in the convertible outside of Vernon , I think it is, every Christmas trip down 287. There were two different herds. One was south of Wichita Falls before Henrietta. The other was past Wichita Falls and past Iowa Park. There could have been more. Those were the ones that I would see.

I cannot remember the man's name that owned all that property out there, almost positive those camels were on his property, he owned lots of land in Nebraska as well, had all those gas stations with the camel or dinosaur logo. He was quite the character, heard he would come to town with six shooters strapped on, I believe he took his own life a few years ago, heard he had cancer really bad, he has property that almost borders us in Wilbarger County. One of his non profit organizations owns the property right next to my restaurant in Southlake, not sure what they do over there, pretty secrative.

I was told that they were raising the camels to milk them because camel milk is very close to a woman's breast milk. Apparently there was a market for the milk. I told my wife that on a return trip from northern New Mexico and she asked how do they milk them. I told her that you get a bunch of beautiful women and just start rubbing all their boobies. If I remember right, she didn't say anything the rest of the way home as well as a few days later.
