Drew a guy in a draw tourney on Cedar Creek back in the early 80's that had a plain old Skeeter Starfire with what looked to be a 150 Merc on the back. My first clue should have been when he handed me a motorcycle helmet and said to make sure it's strapped on good and to tie everything down. Don't know how fast we were going but we were passing boats that left 3 or 4 flights ahead of us. Ran into him some months later and he had a different boat. When I asked, he said he got many complaints about others in the tourneys he fished that he must be overpowered. Turns out he had a worked over 225 under that cowling and either had to quit fishing tournaments or get another boat. He said that Skeeter was clocked at 94.

I went 82 MPH about 30 years ago with a guy I met camping at Proctor Lake. It was like glass and I did not like it at all. We headed back to the ramp at 60 mph and it seemed slow. My Stratos CC had an Evinrude 150 that I went 50 mph a few times and my current Deck Boat has an Evinrude 88 that went 43 when it was new. I hardly get it over 30 mph anymore.

You haven’t lived until you’ve ran 60+ mph in 6-10” water in the bay. It’s a hoot!
Team wolfs I had to perform. It took a minute to get it all in my mouth and another five to swallow it all.

On a cool fall day with the right prop, my boat will do mid 90’s. It generally runs out of driver before it runs out throttle.

mid 70s, buddy had a sanger hull with a blown 454. radar gun said we did 128 in the 1/4mi. skied behind him one time, ONE TIME! I was probably doing 80+ when I bounced. outside turn and I lost it, SPLASH! oh to be young n dumb again! edit: I was on a modified jump ski slalom, about 8' x 9"w with custom foot pcs. you could go fast but turning was a whole nother matter.

This was the owner of the company I work for. He tried to get me to do a few ride-alongs on some of his boats.

Guessing around 100-110mph.…Brazos River, Cameron Park, in 1988. AHBA was in town and the owner of our dirt modified team had a few friends in the drag boat scene. I got to try one. I gave it hell for about 5-6 seconds then I got creeped out and let off. Haven’t had the desire to go that fast in a boat ever since. The boat was capable of SOOO much more. I was a pretty good dirt track driver and thought I could drive anything. Boats ain’t “anything”.

Back in the late 70’s. 16 foot I don’t know what boat with a dialed in Merc 150 with nitrous. 103 by State Police3 radar on the bridge above us.
Keep looking forward. That’s why windshields are larger than rear view mirrors.
