Headed to Belton next week for 5 days of camping and fishing. I've been on the lake once, caught a few fish, but wondering if anyone has some good tips, areas to focus on, baits to use, things like that.
Will be targeting largemouth, smallmouth and white bass if possible. Thanks in advance.

I have not been on Belton for years but night fishing this time of the year was pretty much the way to go, try fishing these points at night, red shad worm won me a night tournament here.

Go check out the west side of Temple Lake park and graph for schools of baitfish and might find some schools of white bass. We also would drag a rig on that area and directly across from it on some flats that drop off.

The lake was 9' over last month and has come down to just a little over 2' high. If you're staying at West Cliff, the park was underwater and maybe not in the best of condition. Temple Lake park has the day use areas still closed but the ramp is open. Water is mid 80's and dirty from all the rain, even main lake areas.

There's been an explosion of shad. Tuesday evening, the area I was in was thick with schools everywhere. When the schools of white bass start feeding, you have about 30-40 minutes of non-stop action. Use your Eye Scope for the whites and hybrids, ie keep an eye out when they start busting on top.

The smallmouth bite has been really good this year. Bigger bites have been in deeper water but don't be afraid to pitch something up against the bank. Whatever you're confident in throwing should work right now.

You should take a day and try out Stillhouse especially if you like to fish grass.

Good luck!
