A month ago my brother texted me a picture of a wooden fly rod tube that Orvis sells. Really fancy with some nice inlay work. He said he figured I could build something similar… challenge accepted… except without the fancy inlay work. Just finished it today. The tube is oak with walnut end caps and hand stitched leather strap. Very happy with the results. Not sure if I’ve got the picture posting process down… hopefully it works.

That is beautiful. Is the tube 8 pieces glued together? I needed one for a trip recently so I went the pvc route since i had some extra. Came out alright but nothing near as nice as that.

Thanks! Yes, 8 pieces glued together and shaped on a router table. I post stuff on the Instructables website… at some point I’ll post a tutorial for how I built the rod tube.

Outstanding work! You could certainly sell tubes like that if interested in spending the time to do it.

That’s a really nice rod tube. It would go really nicely with a Tonkin cane rod!

Truly awesome. I wonder how thin you could go with those walls and get away with it? Perfect for the priceless bamboo!
