White bass fishing has really picked up at PK. Down lake where I fish I see white bass constantly schooling and lots of top water action. The Gizzard shad have spawned and there's clouds of small bait. I have not seen or been able to catch any threadfins. I caught a limit of stripers in about 45 minutes this week and would have gotten them sooner but I had some break offs due to them getting into dock cables. I also had to wade through some undersize stripers. All the stripers were caught on 3-4 inch perch. On a side note, I caught a 10-11 inch smallmouth in my shad net while trying to get bait. The small mouth bass TPWD stocked must have grown well to be that size so soon.

Almost all PK stripers I'm catching are this size or around 16 inches


No much difference between the largest striper and the smallest


Even so, these guys outfight the big largemouth I catch under the deep docks by a lot. A 3-4 lb striper will pull a lot more drag and a 10 lb LM Bass.
I never have a LM Bass get me into the cables but it happens all the time with stripers. As these guys grow and get bigger it will happen more and more. Once they get in that 27-30 inch range they cannot be turned in the first run without risking them bending a hook.

For those wanting to catch sandbass this is the time. Top water action is going on in Neely slough constantly. I fished a green light Sunday night and caught a half dozen for dinner in about as many casts. Good time to take the little tikes out.

84 degrees, pretty clear. The floods from May have settled.
Hundreds of 16" stripers, boiling everywhere.

Find a sand bar bending southward or wind blown point close to deep water. Gold.

Thanks Randy. Hope you can post one on how to fish those huge gizzard shad you are always fishing with. I cannot use them, as they can swim around too easily with the 3/4 oz barrel weight I use and tangle themselves up. I think one of those might be the ticket to finding one of the remaining big stripers in PK.
