I bought my truck last December and surprisingly it took until today on the toll road to discover the truck has a governor and will not exceed 98 mph. I had no idea. Luckily I wasn't in a high speed chase or passing on a 2 lane road. Is this easy to disable?

I would imagine that the ECU can be flashed to eliminate the speed limiter. My experience with this is on a motorcycle, but is most likely similar in a truck.

Will void the warranty.

I have seen rev limitations all across the board and from the unsubstantiated information I've gleaned there are several limitations

New vehicles are set 5mph UNDER the speed rating of the OEM tires. (This was verified by me on my '02 RAM on the Kansas not-so-freeway at right around 110mph)

Danged carpy tires . . . .

My 96 GMC shut off at 98. I'm not sure where the governor was on my 05 Silverado. Had it over 100 several times.

My 14,15 and 17 Silverado's all maxed out @98. Pretty scary the first time it happened. Thought I blew the engine.

My 2019 GMC craps out at 112 mph, which coincides with the speed rating of the tires.

I had no idea so many people were driving their pickups around at 100mph.

It inspires me to do more.

A $70K pickup should be able to go faster than 98mph.

Agree-I can think of some life and death scenarios where this speed restriction could be a problem. Do not recall this being mentioned in the sales process.
