Today was the grand return to the office where i work. We've all known for 4-6 weeks this was the day. They arranged to have a guy making everyone pancakes as a welcome back gesture. We ended up with less than 50% of our pre-pandemic number. Before the pandemic we had 180 folks stationed in our building which meant with travel, vacations, illness and such there would be 140-150 on any given day. Today we had 71 show up. Apparently, some managers allowed their teams to remain remote even though we were told that was not an option. Also, I know we had some employees quit during the lockdown, but I was surprised at how few people showed up. At this point, it looks like the company is going to allow a lot more flexibility of schedule, for awhile at least.
I wonder how much of the last year will change our work environments.

Good lord, we only had people working from home for a month. Yep. We had an optional 4 week “vacation” where I work. We’ve been around 8-10 months behind ever since.

I wonder how much of the last year will change our work environments. Kinda looks like your company has a management problem. Your people were supposed to come in but "some managers" allowed people to work remotely? Who's in charge?

All professional staff in my department are due back 8/1...Right now 3 of us are back 5 days a week, including myself and the 2 people actually responsible for the facility itself, or the student workers running it.
Some departments on campus will not return, and will continue to work remotely...I can see how it can be a win-win, especially since it will free up some parking spaces, lower utility bills, etc. If a job can be performed remotely, and the person tasked with doing it does so without losing productivity, I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to. We've been mostly remote working for 16 months. Our department reopened on 8/17/20, but again, only 3 of us have been there every day. The rest have been coming in one day a week and then one Friday per month.

It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.
…and pancakes are like donuts, they’re always good!

June 1st for us, same deal over half opted for the September return date due what ever reason they could think of
call it what you will...he is not definitely not anywhere near the top of the list for QB's that I would choose needing a FG or touchdown drive late in the game.

Good lord, we only had people working from home for a month. Yep. We had an optional 4 week “vacation” where I work. We’ve been around 8-10 months behind ever since. It all depends on the job you have to do. My wife has worked every single day in a cancer treatment/study enviornment since this pandemic started. I went to work for 3 months after the pandemic started and made the transition to home along with my team an we have been working from home ever since. We have access to what we need to do if we go to the office but it is more of a pain to do that since they found out our team could work from home without taking up office space. It saved office space and in 15 months we have only had to go to the office 1-3 times. It's really about doing what you need to do.

We started going back Tues-Thurs two weeks ago. Already we have lost several people who took jobs allowing them to work from home permanently. It is an adjustment going back in. After 15 months it is like I've forgotten how long it takes to shower and shave in the morning.

If the pandemic hadn't started, he would have been gone by now. He was not long for the job...too much of a BS artist. I am not sorry he is gone, neither are the student workers he supervises.

For so many people it is just dumb driving to the office. Productivity suggests otherwise.
