Watched a pretty interesting video tonight, about the earth being only 6000 years old.
It, was kinda tied to the Bible, and it's timeline.
Have you seen it? What your thoughts.?
Please, keep it civil. I know, what I believe, about the earth. What say you ?

I think it's millions of years old. I do believe the Bible too, but I think our term of years is different than what we think of a year now is.

The topic has caused a lot of arguments between my brother and I. He believes the 6000 year old Earth, I do not.

If it’s only 6000 years old, the Grand Canyon has a much worse erosion problem than we thought it did. The Permian Basin has been underwater 3 different times in its history, it’s just not possible it did that 3 times in only 6000 years.

Genesis 1:1 states that God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:2 states the earth was formless without shape etc.

No time line was given for this period. Earth could of been around for thousands or billions of years before God started to terra forming the earth for life. I believe the earth is much older, but was terra formed for life about 10k years ago.

I believe the Earth is millions of years old. And that animals have been around millions of years also. And humans evolved over the last several hundred thousand years. And I do not believe the Genesis version of earth and humanity story.

Given carbon dating, time for erosion to occur, the skeletal remains of animals and humans that have been found the planet is much older than 6000 years.

The earth is approximately 3.5 billion years old. Compare the rate of geological processes occurring today to existing geologic formations and it’s clear the earth is old. Otherwise, as someone pointed out, the Grand Canyon would be rapidly eroding, volcanic activity and earthquakes would make many parts of the world uninhabitable, and sea level rise and fall would prohibit living within a thousand miles of the coast.

As a Christian geologist, I struggled with the timescales involved in college. However, I eventually realized that 1) the Bible does not constrain the timing of earth’s creation (don’t give me the argument of 6 days to create the world as I hardly think God wears a timex watch and is working against that), 2) it hardly matters how old the earth is as it does not impact our daily life, and finally 3) if one believes in heaven we will find out when we die.

Re the grand canyon, engineers canyon formed in a matter of hours after mt st Helen's blew, and while smaller, it looks almost identical. It is not out of the realm of possibility that a global cataclysm could have done something similar in Arizona

The brain of man is too small and limited to understand our earth or place it has in time.
The more we know or learn, the more it is evident that we don't know very much at all.
We only need to know the first verse in the Bible and accept that by faith. Gen. 1:1
If you don't believe that, then no reason to read any further!

Just one more cast!

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Thanks, ya'll.
And thanks for keeping it civil.

My belief, is I don't know. Excellent points, on all sides.
But, I do know this. All things, are possible with God.
