This year we broke even....first time in a couple of years. That's what I aim for every year on state and fed. If I get a refund I paid too much...

We got a notice of late fees, yet they cashed my check 3 days before the deadline. Go figure.

For the first time ever I have one coming. I filed by the nationwide deadline, not the Texas deadline. Still waiting.

I've never received one either. They like me, on top of regular payroll withholdings claiming single and 0 beneficiaries, I also send them an estimated payment check every quarter, just so I don't have to pay soooooo much at filing time.

I think all of my intended refund went to fund stimulus checks

My goal has always been to be +- $100. The only time I have received a big refund is when something unplanned happened. You don't want to owe too much and get hit with a penalty.

I assume by 0 beneficiaries you mean on your W4 you claim 0 withholding allowances. If so, that no longer exists. There is a new form that takes more of your actual information into consideration and decides how much to withhold. The new form is especially useful if your spouse works as well since it allows you to account for that income.

Interesting. I've been working for the same company for 26 years, and don't remember ever updating anything on my W4? Maybe i just don't remember. On check stub, it shows single/0, same as the day I started. I'll have to look into it I guess.

Your employer is not required to require you to update to the new form. But if you’d like your withholding to be more accurate I would suggest using the new form. I believe your company is required to let you use it if you want.

I just looked at our form, it looks like a standard W4. How do you recognize the difference?
