So this hotel I’m staying at has signs all over the place talking about how often they clean. Yet when you get into the elevator this is what I see that makes me doubt:

That could have been caused by one group of people. Hotels, businesses can't clean after every use.

Smell it to see if it might be swimming pool water.

Agree 100%-I am a hotel manager and literally it is impossible to live up to peoples expectations sometimes. They think they are the only ones in the building, we have construction crews, kids that are coming out of the pool, etc.

Yeah, that's not bad at all.

One morning the elevator doors at work opened and it smelled like a latrine...I don't know if someone just decided to use our elevator as a toilet or if the custodial crew just used dirty mop water, but it was nasty...then the custodian on duty wanted to have a conversation about how it was the night crew's responsibility. I just looked at her and politely asked for the 3rd time that she mop it and clean it. I didn't care WHY it was stinky and gross, I just wanted it cleaned.... bang

What gets me is how hotels no longer clean your room each day. Using the scamdemic as an excuse for the hotel to spend way less money on cleaning while still charging the consumer the same, if not more, for the hotel room.

Not sure what hotels you're staying at but most will clean every day if you're an extended stay and ask for them to clean. I'm one of those that just want clean towels everyday and cleaned maybe every 3 days.

Motels are having a huge issue keeping enough staff to clean the rooms just for new people to check in the day of their reservation.

The days of major branded hotels cleaning rooms every day may be over. We are doing every 3 days, and encourage people to hang their towels just like I do at home. I encourage people to call ahead and if they do not like the hotels policies simply do not come. Plenty of others that will.

Just remember when you lay your head on that hotel pillow, that the pillow was once used as a prop for some woman's behind. grin Don't ever take a UV light with you.

I’ve been working/traveling throughout the plague. Whatever your expectations were before, you are going to be sorely disappointed.

We just got back from a trip to Colorado. Stayed in hotels in Amarillo and Meridian, CO. Both hotels looked like they have not been vacuumed in days. This includes inside and outside the room. I've traveled 34 years for work and don't recall ever seeing this sort of thing. Thankfully, all my work has been virtual since the start of the "pandemic". I got to say I don't miss the hotels. The road noise, people jawing in the hall late at night, kids running up and down the hall screaming and the slamming doors are things I really hated about hotels. When I got home on Monday I slept like a log.

The days of customer service are over. Increase the room rate, but yet you skimp on everything that would make your customer's stay more comfortable and enjoyable. If they call ahead you tell them to look elsewhere? Sure hope I have not stayed in your establishment.
