Had a bad situation happen last weekend where a friend borrowed my boat and popped multiple holes in the fiberglass cowling of my 2001 150hp Yamaha VMax, looking to see if anyone else has run into a situation where they had to replace an older cowling and what they did?

I've browsed a bit and only found a couple used ones for sale that are in rough shape. Repairing the cowling doesnt seem like a great option to be since the sticker wrap is all messed up.

Appreciate any help!

Take it to a auto body shop; they could repair and instead of the stickers(which you could probably find on eBay) have them custom paint it.

Patch it and get a vented outboard motor cover.

Might call around to some of the local repair shops and find out if there’s a outboard junk yard around you. I know there was one around Houston my dad went to and bought parts off old motors.
And man holes in the cowling??? Sounds like a story!

It involves poorly docking the boat at a super busy DFW marina and walking away to let it crash against the dock in 2-3 foot pleasure boater waves. Great fun, appreciate the help!

There’s just some things you don’t loan out boat is one of them. Quick way to lose a friend.

Body shop would have been my suggestion as well. After your buddy pays to fix it, don’t let him borrow it again.
