actually Fork has been pretty good for the last month. but now with the water temps in the low 90's it is starting to get harder. However we are still catching fish in coves and around docks. Main lake points not so much.

For many years my family had a nice house up in Duck Call Cove, in the mouth of Birch Creek. My summer time pattern. Get up early, fish are everywhere until 9am. Texas rig, crank bait, stick bait, top water. Go back, eat breakfast, get a nap, do some yard work, ride the dirt bike around the neighborhood and then go back out from 2 to 4 and fish under bridges and boat docks. Carolina or Texas rig. Then grill a burger and/or take a nap. The bite turns back on from 6 to dark, fish are everywhere again. Top water early and late was a lot of fun. We had some good times. Man I miss that place.

Awesome! Some of my best memories and lifetime fishing experiences was on ole’ mutha forker. Poor ole’ gal just got wore out. She could strap one on ya in her heyday, though…..

Awesome! Some of my best memories and lifetime fishing experiences was on ole’ mutha forker. Poor ole’ gal just got wore out. She could strap one on ya in her heyday, though….. Lots of memories - sitting on the deck one night having an ice cold beverage and a boat is humming down the lake in the dark, had to be doing 50. Me, "I hope he knows where he's at." My dad laughs and shakes his head, "This ain't the place to be doing that." About that time the engine is interrupted with a thump and then silence. In addition to the 13lb, 13oz my brother caught and the near 15 I lost - She took her pound of flesh, fiberglass, gel coat and lower units. Kudos to Johnson Trolling motors and Javelin hulls. That shaft slammed into so many stumps at high speeds it's not funny and it never broke. We sold out down there in 2009, I sold my boat and did all kinds of stuff I regret now that year. What happened to the fishing? I was thinking about getting a guide and going back, but if it's tough sledding, I'd just as soon go to private water somewhere (since I don't have a real boat any more). There were tough days, but mostly we'd just go out during the time of day they were biting - which is an incredible luxury.

The first time I went to Fork was in the days when 21 inches was over the slot and I caught three over 21 in a couple of hours without having any idea where to go. One was on the point at the left mouth of Birch and I think two were around docks in Penson. We launched at Val's so that's where we fished.
For me it has never been the same since the grass died and the LMBV hit (not coincidental in my opinion) in the late 90s, but I don't go to Fork enough anymore to know about how it's fishing lately.

Hire a guide. I fished with one last Monday, and we boated 30 fish. Big bass was 7.5 roughly. Two really nice catfish were also released.
I will tell you that the fish were deep. It was different fishing than I was used to.
