Question 1: They would call me Question 2: Absolutely, I seen more folks mess up their computer by updating just because something popped up that told them to. Question 3: Surely you know what happens when a bios update goes bad, have a catastrophic failure while updating a bios and you can kiss that motherboard goodbye, unless it is a dual bios MB or it can somehow be flashed back. Software on the other had can be re installed and does not require one to purchase new hardware............generally

The "Update Drivers" icon is the classic scam. Granted, you can reinstall apps but it's problematic getting it back to its operational state. Parameters, settings, ODBC connections, etc., all get muddled with a fresh install. My experience with failed BIOS updates, granted it was on high end servers, is it either works or it doesn't. I've powered down servers where a BIOS update became stalled and it always reverted back to the previous version on a restart.

I can remember a time back when I dealt with the computer enthusiast/performance/over clocking folks and flashing bio's became like a spectator sport, and people were bricking boards left and right, then dual bios motherboards became more common place and gave some the chance to recover.

Because of my job, I became an OJT advanced level PC user. My PCs at home were always [censored] because I was never enamored with the hardware end of things I would go dizzy when people talked about cycles, chipset, instruction cache, etc. but a lot of folks were into it.

Same with the hardcore Linux folks. They love custom kernels.

I was always a hardware geek - I had co-workers who would LOVE to tweak the "registry" and quite literally screw themselves into oblivion for something as simple as 'paper out' on the printer.

If it aint broke don't fix it applies here.
Until and unless you develop an issue that requires whatever that bios update provides you should skip it for now.
If you attempt to flash that bios and loose power or otherwise screw it up, you will have bricked that motherboard. Thank you...
