Hey guys good evening, I was out fishing Tawakoni Friday for sandies and had a good catch, it's a Calcutta 400 reel with a pretty nice rod that has been in the lake we're guessing maybe a month or less. Long and short is where can I take the reel to have it refurbished for future use? I'm in the Rockwall area and would like to find a place some what local but, I'm all ears at this point. Thanks in advance,
John Wester

Didn't someone post on here not too long ago about losing a rod and reel at Tawakoni?

Southwest Parts I think that its at the corner of Mockingbird and Irving blvd. I shop their pretty often and I have heard that their really good with reels.

O.T. I've heard the same about S.P. I'll probably give them a shot, just wanted to see if there was anything closer to home.

S.W. parts.
i have used them several times... no complaints.
their turn time is really slow in the springtime.... which just means that they are 'reel' busy.

i caught a rod once. the guy talked me out of the attached lure and then caught all of the fish on that lure. LOL
i still have that reel

Ha-that's funny...we fished Saturday and hung a nice rod and reel combo as well. I didn't realize this was a common event!! This rig looked like it had been in the lake only a day or two...no fish on the end though!

Try John Monk, he has a booth at Canton but he's out of Heath,Tx.
I had him clean/repair a Daiwa SGLC27 and I was very pleased.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

The only one I have ever caught was the one I lost moments before. Fish yanked that rod right out my hand. Grabbbed my slab rig and drug it up out of 6' of water after few minutes. Boy I was sure happy to get the rod back even though I didn't get the fish! My fishing Buddy gave me a hard time for the rest of the day. LOL ---- - -AL

I have used Southwest Parts four different times and they have done a great job on my reels. Old reels or new reels, they will fix them if at all possible. You can't go wrong using them.

Lake Fork Tackle Shop (i think thats the name) does a good job servicing shimano reels. Also, Academy sells a little tuneup kit for most shimano reels and you can download schematics of the reels from shimano website. They arent that hard to work on, I refurb my own shimano reels every year myself. Not too difficult if you have any mechanical skills.
