We had a guy in New Mexico pick his phone up at a red light to send a text and a cop saw him do it. He tried to fight it, but the definition of operating a motor vehicle included being at a red light, he paid the price. I see it all the time, especially in drive through lines. What's funny is when you give them a little quick honk, they hit the gas and then slam on the brakes rather than just idling forward.

Some of this reminded me of an occurrence I was involved with as a kid. I watched my uncle rear end a car at a red light in the early 80's. He had just bought a brand new pickup, and was driving around with the window down smoking cigarettes because he thought he was hot chit. We were at a red light in town and he was looking out the window to see who all was looking at him. I said lights green and without looking he hit the gas and hit the car in front of him. I laughed pretty hard until I realized I was about to receive a whooping for it.

Driving a truck, I sit a little higher and can sometimes see when the idiot in front of me picks up the phone when the light turns red. When this happens, 99.9% of the time it’s guaranteed there’ll be at least some delay IF there’s no intervention. So for some added fun, I will stage my thumb just above the horn in anticipation of the delay.

Then, a nanosecond after the light turns green, and they don’t see it, I blast my horn at them. Either drive, or jack with your phone...don’t do both. Nanoseconds matter!

If you are drag racing, nanoseconds do matter.

Sometimes when I see them driving while on their phone I give a little blast of the horn as well. Probably not a good idea sometimes, but I love it when they freak out. Or when they are driving 15mph below the speed limit and you pass them, they are looking at the phone. Kind of like putting the makeup on while driving.

I’ll do that to right beside them just to scare them. Like you said, probably not the safest thing but sure is funny! Pissed a few off to, then miraculously they have no problem speeding up to catch me. Think I’m gonna invest in hella horns on the little daily driver!

We live East of Longview and our oldest is in Allen, so we drive I-20 quite often. I will pass and get passed the same vehicle numerous times on a trip. I get up to speed and set the cruise control so I can watch for traffic instead of looking at the dash. I will get passed, then a few miles later the same car or truck will be driving way slower than everyone else, yep, they are on their phone as I pass them. A few minutes later, here they come going way faster than everyone else, just to be going slower again a few miles later.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

I had one like that in the neighborhood I lived in in southwest houston, call the city let them know. They will come out and reprogram it.

There is a stop light I stop at in the morning on my way to work. For fun one time I counted the people that had a phone up to their ear while they went thru the stop light. There were about 25 cars and 21 of them had a cell phone in their ear. And they were a mix of young, older, men and women....

I know it can be upsetting. But since I've let all that anger go and just relax while I drive I've been a much happier man. I try not to let other people control my emotions. I'm not 100% better but trying.

2 things about phones and people in vehicles.

1. how many new vehicles come with a phone link for hands free?

2. I have yet to get a new phone that did not come with earbuds at least, speaker phone at worst.

in other words, people for the most part are self centered idiots when they get in a vehicle.
drive any metro during rush hour and fact check me, I dare ya! grin

If you are over about 65 years old you have zero business in the left lane. I said it, it needed to be said. Deal with it.

Also if you arent turning right stay out of the outside lane, particularly on 377 south of keller. It pisses me off.
