I love the game… but the umpires behind the plate just get it wrong way to often when it comes to balls and strikes… technology is there to get it right every time a pitch is thrown. Too many games are getting persuaded by poor umpiring behind the plate. Use the technology we have and get the calls right every time behind the dish. What’s your opinion?

I'm usually a traditionalist when it comes to sports (for instance, I hate the shot clock), but I'd like to get rid of them. The games last longer because of replay reviews.
Not that I watch a lot, but Tennis is the same way.

Doesn't everyone want to watch CB Bucknor and Angel Hernandez compete to be named the worst umpire in the history of Baseball?

Most of the Refs/Umps can be removed from the field of play due to technology being able to make the calls, but you would still need at least 1 on the field in most of the sports. Soccer and Australian Rules Football are good examples of sports using 1 ref. For baseball, only the home plate umb would be needed but you could take him out of the balls and strike call role.
May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

Umpires should remain behind the plate to manage catcher/batter/runner/pitcher interaction. Often times they are able to diffuse emotionally volatile situations.
Balls/Strikes; think it's long over due for the computer to take over.
Umpires behind the plate are also valuable at calling whether the runner is safe or out at home.

Think about it.
The behind the plate ump is essential to stop balls that are fouled off or get past the catcher…doh!

Can a computer tell if the pitcher has been altering the ball?

Who would sweep the plate with the little brush? Who would hold the extra balls in the extra large pocket?
When the batter rushes the plate, who would yell “No, No, Don’t do that”

Yes they need one but not for balls and strikes, that should be electronic now.

It's a game played by humans, so yes, it should also be officiated by humans... Nothings perfect so get rid of all replays also... Dan

I'm for keeping the umpire calling balls/strikes. I'm not all that sold on the little transformed box on TV anyways. I really think the umpires do a great job at calling balls/strikes. Kind of like the new radar gun for pitch speed, years ago the speed was recorded about the time when it crossed the plate, now it tells you the speed coming out of the pitchers hand. I think it was Leo Mazzone, the former pitching coach with the Atlanta Braves telling this on TV a month or so ago. He said that this has increase the picture speed by around 5 mph. This is why you are seeing those 100mph and a lot of other pitchers throwing in the high 90's. I reality it is about 5 mph slower than what you really are getting at the plate. Sometimes....this newer stuff isn't all what it is crack out to be.
