Not sure where to post this. I know most everybody knows to watch for wake boats. 2 non fisherman died yesterday in an area where big Yachts are generally not in the area. I would guess a wake boat caused the issue. Some of these people have no regard what their wake does to other boaters and may be ignorant to what their wake causes and a limited few take pleasure in causing havoc with their wake crashing into smaller vessels.

I know it was July 4th but this goes on during our tournaments and prefishing as well.

Pay attention to your surroundings and others wake.

I was wondering what happened - early reports were a collision between two boats. Then I read a report after the bodies were found that never mentioned a second boat. And I saw it was a pontoon which can be easy to spear a big wave. I said to my wife, they either hit something or it was caused by other boat traffic.

My guess is they will not be able to point a finger at another boat in this instance. Terrible for everyone involved.

Story I heard was one of the pontoons was leaking, as in had a leak in it, once it tipped over weather the wave was the final blow or what, the two sisters fell out of the boat as the boat leaned to the one side that had the leaking pontoon and they drowned. They had rented a boat for one of the sisters birthday. They had 11 people on the boat. They had reservations to rent two boats, but once they got to the rental they only had one boat available. The sad part is these two girls were good kids, one was a lawyer and the other was a school teacher. Sounds like the boat rental company may have some issues renting a boat with a bad pontoon.

Conjecture and guessing on the cause of a tradgity and then pointing fingers at how you THINK (wake boats, yachts…) it might have happened on a forum is always out of line. I read on NBC news that it was boat wakes.

Wake boats are why I have quit fishing P.K. It's just not worth the aggravation .I have fished PK since 1980 and never had a problem with many boats but when wake boats started a few years ago I began to see the shore line being eroded away. some banks moved back several feet and trees being washed into the lake at an abnormal rate .It never happened as bad in the 40 years prior to the wake boats .I no that they have a right to be on the lake but everyone else is paying the price .

But do they have the “right” to artificially create a 5 foot wave on an otherwise calm day ?

On Lavon they have zero regard for any other people using the lake and are never the first in an area, once spot lock can’t keep me where I need to be I head for the trees there is no use fighting it. They are all always ready for a confrontation so don’t think you’re gonna run them off.

Whether or not wake boats caused this. There is a special place in hell for wake boat owners.

Told someone that at a pool party last month, thought ole flat bill was gonna kick me

I was on Palestine yesterday and they were running full wake 20ft from the docks. As they would go by you could see water coming up through the boards on the docks. One of the older docks took some pretty major damage. They simply have no regard for other people or property. I can't count the number of times they have swamped me. Crazy thing is seems like every dock on most lakes now has 2 wake boats hanging on it. You would think they would at least have some ability to recognize that they are damaging property since many of them seem to own and maintain lake front property.

Sad story for sure!
