I’m 65 and working for insurance for my 8 years younger than me wife. Basketball, swimming did in her knees and shoulders. Dr wants to use a tendon in her arm to fix her right thumb that doesn’t work right.

I took my pension from a tech company 3 yrs back after 27 years but landed a good tech gig with really good pay and Benifits. Can’t really complain, but tired of working. Once we get her through this shoulder surgery from 4 weeks back, thumb gets fixed then knee replaced after the first of the year. Once I get her rebuilt I will hang it up, I hope.

Thanks, Billy

Retired at 51 last summer.

Thankful I had some good "advice", in my 20's, about my financial future. Tossing around the idea of doing something part-time, to occupy some time, now that the covid hysteria is chilling a bit. I dabble in a few things here and there and do pretty good at making a few dollars, but do miss interacting with coworkers.

I retired in May 2018 after 33 years of teaching/coaching. Since then I’ve coached part-time in which I’ve enjoyed more than most of my 33 years full-time. Part-time coaching entails showing up for football practice, games and of course I work the weekends with the rest of the staff. Then the same happens in the spring, go to track practice and go to the meets. I do everything the rest of the coaching staff does except teaching. That’s what makes it the greatest job in the world!!! Oh by the way I was 54 when I retired. I had to go back to coaching because I gained 35 lbs after I retired. Got fat real quick!!

Retired at 59 1/2 from the O&G industry with 38 years. Things were getting bad in 2016 and they offered an incentive package to most of us senior employees. I thought about it for all of 15 seconds and turned in my company vehicle, laptop and credit cards. Had planned on working to either 62 or maybe even 65 but with the downturn in the O&G industry things were going South, salary had been cut by nearly $100K while duties were increased, expense account and perks eliminated. Since retiring I fish anytime I feel like it (no weekends), wife and I travel and enjoy life. Best move I ever made.

I retired at 67. Should have done it years sooner, but I enjoyed the work and pay was good for what we did.

Finally decided the rotating work schedule was taking a toll on me. No regular sleep/rest schedule can be hard on old people.

I retired from a major retailer (in Dallas area) at 60 after 37 years at the same company (right out of college). That was four years ago.

From the day I started working I was planning for retirement. Luckily my wife had the same idea. I maxed out my 401K donations. At the time my company would match your investment up to 10% of your pay. That got to be less over the years. But it sure helped. Anytime I got an increase, I would save as much as I could. If I got a bonus, I would save it (except one very good year for the company, I bought a used boat with my bonus).

The downside, we never really traveled much. Went on our first cruise ever right after I retired. Doing some travel now but that was severely curtailed with the pandemic the last few years.

Several people have mentioned it already, save/invest as much money as you can while you are working and get a financial planner to help.

My finacial guy said I was set at 55 but wasn't really wanting to give it up. My wife decided to go ahead and retire after 33 years of teaching. I'm now 64 and this last year has been a tough one, had Covid at Christmas and then 2 strokes and a heart attack in March. Was back to work by April 16th and will more than likely pull the plug in March of 22 after 41 years of service. Honestly I still enjoy my job and would work 10 more years if I thought I could but don't see that happening and wouldn't be fair to my wife.

I'll be retiring next year, 2022, in October...just before I turn 70. Never saved much, spent what I made and enjoyed every minute of it. We'll be moving to Florida, gettin us a nice double wide with artificial turf for our lawn and some pink flamingos...:) Found a used center console to fish out of down there. Probably get bored and do some IT consulting at some point before my skills all go south...:) We'll take advantage of all the freebie stuff the gooberment gives out and let the younger crowd keep working to pay for our SS and Medicare. Just another old guy among all the other old people in Florida...

I really never understood the save every penny you make while working and not taking vacations, going to concerts or buying a boat or what ever you think is fun until you retire. There’s no guarantee that once you retire that you will be in perfect health and not live an extended period of time. Even if you do you only have so much time to travel and do all the fun things until you no longer can. To me it’s a balancing act of having fun while your young and can enjoy it versus saving for retirement. After having cancer last year and now two jaw replacements and reconstructions I don’t regret traveling with my wife and family in lieu of saving a few dollars.

You’re a tough cookie ko, I remember you saying something about the Covid but had no idea about the strokes and heart attack. If you’re going to be pulling [censored] like that I would like to buy you dinner and a beer before you croak lol. You’re a good, glad you’re still with us sir.

We are considering south Florida as well, or being transient. Florida in the winter, South Dakota or Wyoming or Idaho or Montana in the summer

Retired at 53 after 33-1/2 years with a chemical refinery but was too young to stop working so I worked 9 more years with a different chemical company. Retired full time at 62 and between hunting, fishing, gardening, the lawn and being Pawpaw, I don't know how I ever got it all done.

I'd go for Idaho Texdawg. Somewhere around Cour de lane or the Nampa area. Good fishing on the Snake River. We're going to be somewhere around Palatka Florida and the St. Johns River area.
