Sonny Looks (Houston) dated, didn’t keep up. Nickerson Farms-people stopped eating gizzards HoJo-mass produced food connected to a restaurant went out of style Tilted Kilt-failed concept in a crowded market Terry’s - roadside restaurants on freeways, abysmal failure in the end Griffs -19 cent hamburgers were not real meat. The roadside restaurant, gas station, that sold, pecan logs, coonskin hats, state spoons-precursor to Bucees. Forgot the name.

The Candlelight Inn on Division in Arlington was/is still a pretty good place. Been about 5 years since I’ve been, but back in the day and through my 40’s I could always get the chopped steak special for $3.95 if I remember correctly, then wash it down with a big mug of Old Milwaukee. Back when you could buy beer at 18. Those were some times. My instructor's parents started the Candlelight Inn...when her dad got in bad health, it was closed/sold. New owners reopened it and still use the original recipes. The family's picture is up behind the cash register counter in the lobby. Cool place.

I don’t understand how Subway survives, it’s so bad. I guess Sonic makes it on ice cream and Cherry limeade.

Stuckey's When we traveled back when I was a kid stopping at Stuckey's was a big deal. Were they the ones with the pecan log? Oops. I see they were.

SAMBOs! Not hard to figure why they went away! But the food was good. Also Big Boys and they had similar menu! Wawi mentioned Lubys in their heyday- the coconut meringue and custard pie at the end of the line was topnotch! Guess Pappas took them nearly down!

Sambos was pretty solid, I got a notice for a liquidation sale of some Lubys if anyone interested you can go to the location at belmead in waco and buy equipment on the 10th. They did harlingen couple weeks ago. More to come as they unwind. The Pappas got their clock clean on that deal.
