When you fish a C-rig. What I have done is completely opposite of how many rig their C-rig. I will use 14lb fluorocarbon line then for my leader I will tie on 12lb monofilament line. Here is what I have found happening. By using mono line and a thicker line you lure does not stay stuck to the bottom. It tends to float behind the weight at the swivel. So when you are dragging the weight across the bottom your worm, lizard or whatever you may be using is floating a lot more. Monofilament line does not sink as well as fluorocarbon so that’s an advantage there, plus using a little thicker line helps out even more. You can use whichever size weight you normally throw, I personally throw one from 1/2 to 3/4 oz when I am fishing humps and rocky points. My leader is around 12”. Sometimes a little longer. I’ve been doing this for a few weeks now and it has increase my catching ratio a lot. Plus I have caught more 4+ lbs than ever using it this way. Give it a try and see if you start catching more fish when you fish a C-rig.

I used to think this too, but if you are using a bigger/heavier hook or your bait has a lot of salt in it - your mono isn't going to matter and will perform about the same as flouro on the leader. What I have done is completely opposite of how many rig their C-rig. I find 12# mono leader to be the norm, not the exception, in my group of fishing friends for the reason of keeping the bait floating/suspended. Perhaps we are the exception and didn't know it, lol.

I use the same mentality. But even if the mono doesn't actually help it float any higher, I like that its slightly less abrasion resistant than my main line so generally I can brake off my leader and get my weight, bead and swivel back.

We should invent a slide in, air filled, plastic capsule about the size of a nail weight. Float the bait and use whatever line you want.

I might give those floaters a try. During the summer time, I use the C-rig a lot.

I've used those floaters, but be warned. When I use them, I can't get them to float anything heavier than a 1/0 hook and a 4 inch fry. Everything else sinks. YMMV
