Yes. There’s no such thing as too many things to complain about...bring on the deer-like bass seasons.

I'd say take it a step further. Make anglers take educational courses and be certified to fish. I've never been to Squaw, but I've heard its an incredible fishery where people have to make reservations. Lets do that on every lake. Require permits and reservations, regulate catches and non-artificial baits. Eventually, and I mean.. its going to take years, we will get these texas fisheries back to where they were in the 90's. This insanity literally makes me want to vomit. You probably need to move to another state. Take a look at California or Maine. Their wildlife and fishing laws are endless and impossible to follow. Sounds like that would be right up your alley. They probably even have some continuing education classes from the 1980's you can be forced to take. I'm still holding out some hope that your wrote this tongue in cheek, and I just missed the sarcasm. Yeah, what Tx Tree Grower said. I'll help you pack!!

This was maybe the worst I thought I had ever seen.... I'm watching the MLF right now up north and the catching is insane, I can't help but think its so good because they have closed and open seasons for bass there and they just opened the season. I figure 99% are going to say no but would the fishing here be much better if it weren't open season all year, the human population is growing here. Closing hunting to deer was probably disagreed when first proposed, too long ago for most to remember. But only a few minutes later it got beat. Seriously what are people thinking? Of course we figured out in November that half the country isn't thinking so this shouldn't be surprising. To Mark's point, I go up there and fish Lake Ontario every year and yes the average day is 60-80 fish for the 2 of us but maybe 10% of the boats fishing out of where we are (Henderson Harbor - mouth of the St. Lawrence) are fishing for bass. 90% are there for salmon, lake trout, walleye and/or perch.

I know they do it in cold climate lakes because the spawning and growing season is much shorter, so I understand it.....you want to really piss them off.....tell them all tournaments on public water should require a permit that costs the tournament director/club/etc. say 10-15 dollars per participant......and while we are at it, small water (under 2500 acres) tournaments would be limited, and lakes under 1500 acres would just be verboten period......

The Michigan bass season does not mean you cannot fish for bass. It only means you cannot keep them.

If the bass in Texas spent 4 months of the year living under a sheet of ice, they'd bite like crazy during the summer too.

Too much revenue pumped into the state for them to consider an open/closed season for any freshwater fish species (barring any endangered species of course). Also we have an overpopulation problem in many of our lakes since so few bass fishermen help cull out smaller fish to decrease competition for forage. I think a "closed" season would make the fishing worse in the state.

That is true. Same for Lake Erie in Ohio waters. Tournaments are still held but they are like some of the slot lakes in Texas which are paper tournaments. Ohio put a closed season on Lake Erie during the spawning season. I can tell you from experience it really improved the fishery. But I don't tournament fish so I never worry about the next guy that might be cheating to win $100 dollars or so. There is too much money being made on the large tournaments that are held all over Texas every weekend to ever put a limit on when you can put a bass in the livewell. Even if it would drastically improve the bass fishing it would never happen in Texas.. The Michigan bass season does not mean you cannot fish for bass. It only means you cannot keep them.

Horrible idea. People must be bored at work if they are starting threads like this.
