I can understand paying more in to get employees. Once they've upped the pay it will be hard to go back and tell them that they have to reduce their pay to survive. The current govt subsidies are set to expire in September. States that have not quit taking them are going to be hurt long term. This was a backdoor way to increase the minimum wage. Once given its impossible to take back. No, not hard at all. Corporations have been outsourcing work to low cost countries for decades. Restaurants will do the same later this year when they find an applicant (no longer drawing off the government dole) willing to do a job for $15/hour that they currently pay $20/hour. The $20/hour employee will be offered a pay cut or the door.

The end result / plan appears to have a goal where the minimum wage = max wage for all jobs or even if you decide not to work (except for the select few). All the houses, cars, and clothes to look the same, everybody use the same lure to catch the same little fish, etc. “You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit”.

The consumer loses on all counts. Higher prices for food and once again LONG wait times to be seated for dining. Texas Roadhouse and Saltgrass wait times are an hour or longer on any given evening for example. With more restaurants to choose from, wait times diminished. The inflation rate is highest it has been since the 80's. Way to go dumbarses.

No, that will not be the new normal.

The point of tipping at restaurants is that the waitstaff usually get the Federal minimum wage of $2.13/hour. My tips provide the employees with a "living wage", and it wasn't really that long ago that the standard for tipping was 15%. Now it seems to have risen to 20-25% - I can't imagine tipping 35% unless I'm getting phenomenal service.
So if the restaurant raised it's prices to give the waitstaff a living wage, then tipping is no longer necessary, and at best it should only need to be back down at 10-15%.
Going out to eat at a restaurant is not generally a necessity. This is something that I can forgo if the cost is too high.

The Federal Minimum Wage is $7.25/hr However, there are approx 28 states that mandate a higher minimum wage. Waitstaff in many states are paid $2.13/hr (tip credit wage). Waitstaff are then required to declare all of their tips for taxes and at the least, an amount that brings their hourly pay to at least minimum wage. Nonetheless, the foodservice industry is struggling with rising costs at every level of the business and no doubt there are some idiot operators out there that are taking advantage of the situation.

I "dine out" at least twice a day through the fast food lines.. Its plain to see that a lot of the new folks in those jobs are bottom of the barrel. Its as if those that were good or above average before covid have looked around and found what they consider better opportunities or haven't gone back to work yet. Denny's here flat out sucks for service, stopped at Sonic last night and no service except through drive through window, noticed one of the best IHOPs in Tyler was closed at 11:00 p.m. The prices at any food joint these days is getting out of hand. Same thing at the gas/convenience stores... the folks working behind the counters act like they finally made it to the top. When the end to the madness finally comes and everything shakes out, the best employees will have moved on to companies that realize their worth and the worst employees will find out you have to show up on time and work or you'll be back from where you came from.. the unemployed ranks.

Stopped into a restaurant for lunch today I frequently visit and the menu was on a plain paper instead of their regular menu. All of their prices have increased I would say around 20%, and their steaks were around a 40% increase. I read a line at the bottom with an asterisk to make it noticeable. It read that they have increased their employees pay which has mandated they have to increase their menu prices. The the next line added that anything over $25 ordered they would automatically add a 35% tip fee. I looked at the price of their hamburger steak plate which was $21.95, and a drink would be $4.99, add the local tax then added a 35% tip that would have added up to $40.01. I laugh at the waitress who had served me plenty of times before and told her that I wasn’t about to pay that much for a lunch menu item that costed me less than $20 last week. I got up and left and wished her the best in the future. This is what is happening to make sure those employees are being paid what the democrats thinks is fair and livable. The problem is people like me cannot afford to pay them that wage by eating there. That. Would be the last time I frequented that place. Here is the problem, it’s going to start happening everywhere. A Big Mac meal will soon be $15. What a burger I more than that now, has been for awhile.

What A Booger must charge more for their "aging" and "stressing" process. Most of the burgers I get there have been under the Heat lamp for days, maybe a week and it costs more for an employee to step on the package and kick it around the kitchen floor.
