How are these better than ones with a probe where I can see internal temp without opening the grill top?

Genuine question, not breaking balls here. I've seen so many folks talk about them they must be good. But I really like my remote thermometer where I can sit inside and know what the meat temp is.

I have both, but the Thermapen is much more versatile. I use it a lot when grilling meat on the grill and we use it to check temps on the stovetop and air fryer items. It’s just a quick and easy way to check all sorts of foods. I use the remote for stuff in the smoker.

As HasBen said, I use them for spot checking temps. I really only use the probe type on long cooks. I use the MK4 when I grilling steaks, chicken, etc. with high heat. I do use the MK4 when checking final temps and for "probe doneness" when smoking a brisket or pork butt.

Thermapen MK4 are great! Have 2 of them and they are highly accurate, use them all the time. Come highly recommended.
